thanks David . But most of the effect is just in the photo. Although I applied little dots of varnish on the desired areas (using the first pics I took as reference , while oils were still wet) the real effect is more subtle.
And I didn't want to risk too much because I had to present the bust just today in a model show.
So when I'll recover it I'll try to push it up as on the pictures.

Hi Mate
A wonderful piece of work as mentioned love the skin tones and the herringbone of the combat shirt ,the eye you have done a great job with what has been sculpted ,when I looked at it a while ago I thought the eye would cause some issues looks like he is taking aim or looking into a jungle sun, have you thought of making a shell pack with bandage going around the offending eye I did one for an ST figure a while ago and it worked really well ,will try and dig a pic up
Great piece of art work
Cheers Chris

Hi mate
Could not find the marine I did the injury bandage for but did this for a German figure obviously there was more with this figure I used plumbers tape and a little bit of fine weave gauze

Thanks Chris. Wonderful job on that bandage, and the blood effect is 100% convincing. But I said above, this piece has been resting in my display cabinet for more than a year, so I won't touch it except perhaps for dusting it with a feather duster.
Cheers, Gerard

Real nice paint job Gerard;....Was tempted to get this piece as my Dad was in the Marines at Guadalcanal. I think you've handled the right eye very well ;but I personaly don't think I could pull it off.
Overall an excellent job on a ( for me would be a tough piece )..........Best Regards.....Wayne.....
Nice presentation also.Where or how to did get the nameplate......

Really great painting,
the black effect on the base reminds me of some of the volcanic sand on the islands the Marines fought on,
and the badge on the base works well too!!
The figure is well painted, exceptional effort.
Outstanding results!!

Cheers
Jamie

Very nice work, will save pics of this for when I tackle mine, not sure why everyone is commenting about the eye as it represents him squinting into the sun, but saying that its a simple fix to add a wound dressing if one doesn't like it as is.

Thanks Wayne. The nameplate was made in photoshop...so metallics are not real:cautious:

but printed on a glossy paper and covered with a transparent acetate paper section it produces a nice effect.

Hi Jamie, Many thanks. About the base, I had some fun playing with a cigarrete lighter on the upper corners of the wooden base and letting them burn for a while. The idea was taken from this tutorial:

Superb! Really like the color tones, textures of different materials, and base design you have applied on this cool bust.
