I have only ever done similar with flats, which isn't that helpful apart from following the line of the light. The moon lit side is great, it's an ambient light that will give an overall luminescense. The candle light is more focused to a single point, either a single candle or candelabra, you need to fix in your mind exactly where this is positioned and keep it there. Then given that light travels in a straight line add subtle shade on those parts that the light will travel past but not touch. And just to make it complicated remember these new areas of shade will be illuminated to some extent by the moonlight.

Of course if the room is lit by numerous candles scattered around and possibly the odd gas light then it looks really great as it is as this too will provide a more ambient light.

Hope that at least gives you food for thought.

Cheers Simon
