Thanks for the encouragement, gents. I am done the banding now and getting ready to start on the metal and small details.

I am thinking for a base that I will do a bank at a river crossing, based upon a scene in a book I read at one point about Vercingetorix.

Busy, busy, busy, I finally have some time this week to sit and paint for the day. I am going to start in on the metal. Of course, I am not going to simply paint the metal as is, I am going to emboss it and I found the perfect example.

I will be giving the shield the same treatment.

This should take me a few hours, especially since I am going to be trying a new technique for metals I dreamed up this week.

Here is a quick update pic, just the leggings finished with a slightly better pic.

Latest WIP. Freehand completed on the helmet. I had planned on something a bit more elaborate, so I may add more in at a later time if I get ambitious lol.

It took me a bit longer than normal metal work because I was playing around with using the metallic paint as a glaze and using traditional NMM techniques to form the base layers.

Thanks Colin. I am glad that the helmet turned out well, I went miniature blind painting it so I had a hard time judging it myself.

Today's Progress

Shield nearing completion, I am still deciding whether I wish to add in some freehand on the bosses of the shield or just tidy them up and leave them as is. Any thoughts?

Final WIP!

Today was the day I had dreaded, the body art. I had never attempted anything so delicate and was REALLY afraid this would result in a fit of painting rage. Deep calm breath...

I did do a retake on part of the chest I was unhappy with. Rubbing alcohol is a wonderful thing.

So here is the result and I am SO glad I didn't mess it up... too much.

Finished piece should be up in a week or so once I get him properly based and the touch ups done.

I have his base sculpted, this was a first for me. I had never actually sculpted a base before. The rocks are cast from Woodland Scenic's molds, then I used doll maker's clay to fill in. I had this beautiful wood out in my shop waiting for something special, I think this was a good use for it (First time I had been out in my wood shop since the beginning of winter!). I love the grain and lined the grain up with the gradation of the rocks.

I really had no idea what I wanted to do with this base as far as foliage was concerned. It became a very organic, pardon the pun, process. The plant matter is from my long dead flower boxes and bushes I trimmed outside. I think it came out looking very much like a bog.

I have to give a big shout out to Marta for the viking base SBS, there were some very handy tips in there!

Everything is coming together aces...

The groundwork is looking good and I really dig the tattoos... coming from a guy covered in tattoos :sneaky:

Looking forward to the finished product.
