Just checked out S N Models again and ended up dipping into my wallet. Over 120 pages of Verlinden in all scales, and they have all the marshal busts too Nap. Very cheap and low shipping costs.

Oh Peter, I wish I had your painting skills.
I too like these old Verlinden 1/5 busts and have the archer and Viking in my grey army. Sometime ago I reworked the gladiator from the same range, completely modifying the helmet crest and face guard, adding muscle definition, a left arm and a shield. Please ignore the painting on the body tones. I’ve still got a lot to learn…..that’s why I watch your work, Peter, with interest.
Thanks also for link….as you say very reasonable prices. (Note to self…..NO you do not need any more projects!).

Hi Nigel

That's a very nice version of the gladiator. I have attempted it in the past myself, and also found that the torso was under-muscled - the work you've done has made a huge difference. Don't look at my work too closely - you may pick up some bad habits!

Having found that for some reason I'd got a bit fed up with this one, I decided to see if I could get it finished in one long session. Here he is:

Red tends to bloom with my camera, so a lot of the shading has been lost in the photography, but hopefully you'll get the idea. The red was done with combinations of Vallejo Black Red and Dark Vermillion worked wet. For the green facings I used heavily whitened German Uniform.

Hi Peter

That's a good session you've done and a good result , I like the facing color you've achieved , reds look good despite tge camera effects

All credit to you for perservering and completing this large piece

Happy benchtime

Ken - Many thanks. You can't beat a bit of outlining.

Neil - I think the scale was getting to me. There's nowhere to hide when it's this big.

Nap - I was going to put it aside if some new stuff I've been waiting for arrived today. Obviously it didn't so I got stuck in. The lacework should have a double row of red piping, but life's too short. Glad you approve.

Morning Peter

Great finish and the reds are spot on despite the camera limitations..

Back to the figures now?

Have a good day with your next victim

Regards
