A pirate named 'Caesar' for some reason, sculpted by Derek Holmes for Verlinden. Holmes work can be a bit eccentric, but I think this one is spot on - tons of character and finely sculpted. Very enjoyable to paint.

One out of the box Peter.
So nicely presented & agree one of Derek’s best.
For those who wanted a little more background on Derek we shared tributes to him when he sadly passed prematurely back in 2002

Thanks Peter for continuing to honour his legacy.

Mobo - Thank you.

Marcin - Thought I'd have fun with the colours, glad you like them.

Mike - Nice to read the tributes to Derek - I didn't realise he died so young. I've also got hold of his Earl of Oxford bust for another attempt (messed up the first). Although his sculpts could sometimes be a little odd, they were always very cleanly sculpted and a joy to paint.

Yes it was very sad, just too early.
I’ve got de Vere & struggles to get a good version.
Though I do like the bust.
Look forward to seeing some more bust mate!

Hi Peter

Goodness that was the first bust I painted ..long ago , no idea where it went !....nice to see your version and very colourful so you've obviously had fun with this

What did you use on the skin colour ?

Are you buying these from Historex ?

Thanks for sharing

Look forward to your next

Nap

Nap - Glad to be able to give you a trip down memory lane. Yes, buying from Historex, who have a few left at very reasonable prices.

The skin was done with mixes of Vallejo German Camo Black Brown, Flat Earth, Cavalry Brown and Flat Flesh.

Thanks William.

Type ''200mm' or 'bust'' in the search field and they should pop up. snmodels.com of Italy also have a few at very reasonable prices and with cheap postage.

Morning Peter

Another super bust, love the colours too.

Your African skin is always so good too.

I guess busts are a bit like Chinese food, they only last for an hour or two then you need another one!

I have a "Grey Army" of busts collecting dust for the day when all my kits and tools are packed and in storage, though a move seems to be as far away as ever at the moment.

Looks like you will need another victim for the weekend.

Enjoy the painting as the weather will be awful!

Regards

Steve H

Another beauty Peter, love the colours, lots of pirates used their ill gotten gains to buy flamboyant clothes. love the skin tones, very good shading and highlighting. I'll write those colours down, I still have Verlindens figure of the soldier reading the playboy, on which I cant get the skin colour 'just so'.

Steve - Morning. I did really enjoy painting this one, though it did only take two sessions - I tried to make it last longer, but it just wouldn't. However, I have got a series of cheap bust to do now that I'm in bust mode, so hopefully they'll keep me busy for a while. Also my granddaughter is here, so bench time will be limited.

Henk - Glad you like him. I did hesitate with the purple belt, but thought that it could be dyed Moroccan leather taken from a rich merchant or something like that. Either way, the bust needed the extra colour
