Ron T,
Like yourself I also use oils! .. However, what I have recently noticed is the big difference between the , W/N, 'Winton' Range, (Just started using), and W/N, 'Artist range' ! especially with drying times! and coverage. Similar to Brian, and due to enforcement, I ended up working with wet on dry! for quite a while, and I was quite pleased with what I could achieve. (Given my limited skills),.. Blending is just as good, with smooth transitions. What oils do you use, just out of interest !

Regards,

Mark.

Mark if you can afford it save up and buy some Old Holland oils-I just get fed up with the masses of oil that flows from the W&N Oils before any pigment comes out of the tube, and I'm talking here about the artist quality. The OH's are almost pure pigment and much better value for money in the long term. I also have a few selected colours in Rembrandt and Maimeri they also are very good. I just think W&N are a rip off but because most art shops in the UK only stock W&N then there is little choice.
I buy all of my material now on line from Jacksons Art-they discount most materials including W&N series 7 brushes.

Keith

Thanks, Keith, & Geoff! ...
I will have look into these options, as these names are unfamiliar to me, .. clearly by the sounds of them, they are going to put a dent in the veritable wallet! :arghh::arghh: ! .. but still, the odd tester might be viable. ... just to see! Cheers!

Ok! . (Old Holland).. anywhere between, 6.50 and 38.50! with the average being 20 (GBP) for a 40mm tube! ... Just trying to find my other eye!.. as the buggers popped-out! LOL!.. careful selection is clearly required!

Mark I use Old holland when I can get them ,But also W&N artists quality ,you will find more pigment in artist qaulity as opposed to linseed oil therefor should dry quicker .

They are not that much more expensive Mark if you stick to the A series it is when you start going up the alphabet that the price rises dramatically with each new letter but most of the stuff for modelling is down on the The A tubes

Thanks for the input! ... some research is clearly pending!... and 'Piggy-Bank', raiding!

Mark

Mark if you are worried about the amount of oil Keith mentioned, flowing from the tube before the paint starts, just lay your squeese of paint onto some blotting paper, yes the school type, that soaks up any amount of oil and lets you pick how you want your oil.

I am a bit worried about my friend Ron and his loss of money to a magazine clearly not up to his standard.
I feel we can sort this problem out. If every member on the Planet sends Ron £1 (to me of course but for Ron). I will make sure Ron gets his money back and the remainder will be wisely squandered at Euro amongst his friends.
Please dig deeply, I,,, sorry Ron needs the money for Euro

Do you think Ron will get much for a Fiver ??? ... clearly with your handling fee being deducted!... so! .. 2.37 (GBP)

Don, you could waive your fee and give Ron the full Fiver !! ...:angelic:

As I said mate, "you win some, you lose millions". Anything for my mate Ron!
At this rate I can see me having to give him the money myself.
Wonder if he would settle for a couple of old Mil Mag's?

Don
