Thanks again guys.

Dan, I know what you mean. But the left side of the trenchwall is with the figure. I only sculpt the right side and made 3 layers of the sandbags. I have had several days when I thought I had to make 4 layers more of sandbag's. But in my opinion it whas out of proportion then.
So I decide to do it this way. That's the reason why the trench is not that high.
This is a picture of the whole trench. (cannot upload trough my work) : http://www.jonsmith-modellbau.com/products/scale-115-120mm/the-german-trench-1917/
I only had the part right of the dugout and then just one. (that becomes with the figure).
As you see the trench is not higher then his shoulder.
I wish I had then the € for the whole trench.

Great work Marc,I love the scene and that figure is awesome, I love his glasses,I'm so pleased as well you didn't give him that clean look we see so often, the mud and weathering look great.

Marc - One to two more rows of sand bags - sufficient to be a head above the standing figure. I've had some unhappy experiences with sculpted sand bags sliding around, especially if you do them in layers. Next time I do that I'm going to do one layer at a time and let that layer dry thoroughly before putting the next one on. And I still might reinforce them with wire.

I've found putting some thinned Vallejo pumice paste on some of the sand bags gives them a grainy appearance.

If you put on the two rows or layers of sand bags, will you also have to add fill behind them to keep the same depth?

I'm sure you've seen the same photos of trench fire steps and parados that I have. However, I can post some if you'd like.

All the best,
Dan

Yes I have to fill behnd the sandbags. I have some more plaster of paris...(not so difficult for me as a orthopaedic technician). I think I gonna trough in some tree stumps, etc. Just to let it look more that the trench whas digged out.

Well reproduced the atmosphere of filthy trenches. Just missing the smell of death and gunpowder to be perfect.(y)

Pedro.

Thanks again Guys.
I'm very pleased that you like it.

For Dan: I sculpted 5 layers sandbags. It's now 2 rows above the head. I use cocktailsticks to hold them together.

Much better Marc! That should protect his head! Fine job of painting everything! I like the fact that the uniform [over coat-feldrock-trousers-hat] are all different shades. So many painters end up making a soldier's ensemble look like it all was made at the same tailor shop using the same cloth.

All the best,
Dan
