I've just had a very f***** frustrating afternoon painting with my W&N series 7 brushes. My favourite is a number 1 but that one stray hair at the point of the brush has got me fuming,so much, that i'm going to get in touch with W&N and inform them of the flaws that keep appearing in their top of the range, and most expensive brushes, especially their number 1.
I ended up using Series 7 Miniature brushes that i had kicking about and what a difference they made.
I've got a selection of series 7's e.g. 000,oo,o and usually have no problems with them but their size 1 is a bloody nightmare.
No more mister nice guy.

The ones here in continental Europe are quite good Brian, you should have stayed, then you could have bought the good stock from Frank

I believe you Pete,me old mate.I believe the wooden shaft comes from the Amazon rain forests, where the local natives spend their day looking for the right size bits of wood. They're so adept ,that they carry a wee ruler with them to make sure they get the size for the handle. Then there's the whittlers, but that's another story.

I received a W&N series 7 brush size 1 brush from Amazon yesterday and i'm sending it straight back as that stray hair was sticking out at the point.I'm going into a Glasgow art shop today who stock series 7 brushes and i'm going to check them out.
I've already sent an e-mail to W&N pointing out this problem and will get back to you lads when they reply which will be in the next couple of days

I bought 2 W&N series 7 size 1 brushes from the Glasgow art shop yesterday and got 2 good ones. The spotty faced student boy who served me was a bit flabergasted when i asked to inspect the points on them.I also asked if he sold W&N series 7 Miniature brushes, and he said the most miniature they stocked was a 000.I tried to explain to him that there's 2 types of series 7 brushes, but i may as well have been talking to a brick wall.GASART,great art shop.Customer service crap.
Had an e-mail back from W&N asking what the problem was with the brushes i had bought with the single hair sticking out at the point, and to explain to them, once again, what the problem was and to include the batch number and if possible take a photograph of the fault.
Any of you lads having a similar problem,i would appreciate it if you could send me pictures,as i reckon the more i can send to more clout,as they think it's only a fault on 1 brush, after me telling them it was quite a few.Makes you wonder if there's a human with a bit of knowledge, just enough to be able to read FFS

P>S> Here's the e-mail i was sent from W&N
Hello Brian,

Thank you for contacting Winsor & Newton.
We are sorry to hear that you are facing an issue with one of our Series 7 miniature brushes.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us.
So that our dedicated team can investigate this issue, can you provide further details?
What are the reference numbers on your brush ? (bar code, batch code, product code...)
It would also be very helpful if you could send us some photos showing the issue.
Looking forward to hearing back from you,
Best regards

Now that you mention it, I like to remember I have experienced the same flaw with the odd hair sticking out. As No 1 is the most used size its likely that it was No 1?
I have no Batch-no what so ever and dont remember where I bought them.

Cheers
Janne Nilsson
