"I know nothing,nothing"

Whaaaaaat!!!! :arghh: Yet another of my primary source historical references debunked ...... I'm still trying to get over the shock of abba's Waterloo and Fernando being disputed by some members here.
Thank goodness that Hogan's Heroes remains the definitive source for life in a Stalag.

Bloody Hell!!!!! Thanks for nozeeng, NOZEENG Ralf :(

Del. You will have to stick with Napoleonics and watch all 20 odd episodes of Sharp.

Everyone seems to rave about "Combat!" but I think it's pretty risible and on the same level as 'Rat Patrol'. Even if you look past stuff like the am-dram uniforms and the anachronistic post-war tanks (M-47s), the filming backdrop was quite obviously southern California and NOT north-west Europe. Utter cods.

Probably the worst for my money though has to be the "Dirty Dozen" tv series made in the late '80s (though very much in the style of a '60s war show). I sat through a couple of episodes of it when one of the satellite channels screened it some years back. Filmed on the cheap in Yugoslavia, it was mercifully shitcanned due to bad ratings after only about half a dozen episodes had been screened (several more had been made, but the network refused to pay the production company for them, it was that bad). Ben Murphy played the "Lee Marvin" role. A few episodes can be found on YouTube if you're really interested. But don't say you weren't warned.

At least Allo Allo remains the definitive recreation if the secret war un France. The Herr Flick guy was terrifying.....especially in a corsette.

Colin

A really valid point! Another secret weapon!

If I remember right, there was a model set based on The Rat Patrol in 1/72?

Bob

I had it. Smaller than HO if memory serves. Terible series. Cool theme song and credits. My Mom thought German CO Erich Braeden was yummy. I think he changed his name when he moved to soaps.

Hogan's Heroes made me cheer for the Jerries. I think I could tell there was something off with Bob Crane through the screen.

Not exactly a war series but has anyone been unfortunate enough to see the latest crap TUT the warrior king who saved Egypt

I think I remember Hogan's heroes, wasn't it a more serious version of Colditz? And speaking of cold tits, I love Helga's dress code:playful::playful::playful:.
(picks up telephone) "Flick ze Gestapo", (rolls eyes) "I zed FLICK ze Gestapo".

I'll be a dissenter... I liked Rat Patrol and loved Combat. Then again, I was only 6 or 7 at the time, so I have an excuse:cool:

There was another war series of similar vintage called "Garrison's Gorillas", which is now largely forgotten. It was another "Dirty Dozen" inspired series: bunch of cons with various specialities licked into shape by a square-jawed officer (American, obviously) to carry out secret missions etc. etc.

I think it was originally a spin-off (of sorts) from "Combat". It was my favourite show on TV when I was about 6, but when I saw it again in the late '80s when Channel 4 in the UK repeated it, it had not aged well.

Never been released commercially in any format as far as I know, but again, some episodes have found their way onto YouTube.

You're right, Colin. Eric Braden has been Victor Newman on the Young and the Restless for the last 40yrs.

In 1966 I was just born! .. So I really cant remember that much TV! .. Even if we had one then ??? In the 70's yes, but was all black and white ! ..It was the mid, 70's when I first saw colour TV. How sad/mad is that.:wideyed:

In Australia we grew up on......SPYFORCE [Top Secret]
The same handful of Japanese actors would show up in every episode.

My Mom wouldn't let me watch Combat or The Rifleman lest I grow up with an unhealthy interest in military things (fail :)).

But even at seven or so I could tell that there was an accuracy problem with a US patrol that never took any casualties defeating an entrenchged German battalion. I guess it helps when they charge out of cover one at a time.
