Kev, I'd go with 967 Olive green, lightened with 845 sunny skin tone. But that's just me. Or 823 Luftwaffe camo green looks similar from the colour chart.
Carl.

Do you have any picture references you can link to showing the type of colour you're aiming for?

Some examples of Italian uniform colors...

I hope these will help.

All the best,
Dan

That's what I was getting at Dan - there's so much variation in the colour. An example here showing various items in just the one photo, so that there's no question it's an issue of colour balance in the photos.

I quite like the very grey versions we sometimes see (as in top-right on your attachments) so the basic mix type for Feldgrau would work just as well for that, but no use suggesting it if something more khaki is what Nap wants.

WW1 Italian

Hi Guys ,
Thanks for the posts , the colour I am looking for is the gray/green version , the uniform being a stand up collar so its early WW1 .

Dan , great pics ..where are they from as I am sure I have them some where in a mass of magazines !!!! , if anyone has close up details of the cap and eagle feather and the badge it would be appreciated .

Einion ,

Thank your for the link great pictures , would welcome anymore , or if you wish e mail me them to [email protected]

Einion - Wide variations in colors in any and all WWI uniforms would imho be the rule not the exception. There was nothing like the standardization we see today. The uniform manufacturers were getting most of their dyes from mostly poor substitutes for the pre-war sources, the effects of wind, weather, sun particularly bleached the colors.

Nap, the color you are (I think) talking about is gregio verde. Probably I'm butchering the Italian. Ask and you shall.... The one with the black feather is a repro. The other is an original. And they didn't all have feathers. And color variations in hats...

All the best,
Dan

Okie dokey, that is actually one of the easier shades to make. I'd recommend using a variation of what I suggest in this thread, just with more emphasis on the grey in the mix.

It's not the only way to mix a very dull colour like this, but it's arguably the simplest and most reproducible.

Oh yes, absolutely. Don't even have to go back to WWI, if you remember the thread on Hodden Grey - even different items on the same person can be surprisingly different, even before we get to comparisons between individuals.
