Hi folks, ridiculously I’ve got at least 3 figure/bust projects on the go at the moment, here’s the first. It’s a lovely figure with tons of character, I hope I can do it justice. I’m happy with the start on the eyes and flesh tones (although the pics are rubbish).

There's a lot of character in the face so far, nice work. I'm sure this will look great as you progress.

Thanks folks. I feel like I've got the colours mapped out and now I need to tidy it up a bit and think about glazes to tweak the tones etc. Something I've noticed in other people's work is a technique that looks like they've placed brush strokes to follow the folds of the skin so that they form part of the face rather than blending them in, is this a thing and is there a name for it that I can look for?

Not sure about the brush strokes thing, I thought the idea was not to have any. It sounds maybe a bit like impasto in painting on canvas where you use a pallete knife and lay the paint on thickly, but it wouldn't look right I think on a figure. Maybe others more educated than me will know but I'm sorry I can't help beyond that. To be fair all he needs is the glazes you mentioned pulling the tones together more and he's good to go. Hope you find the answers mate.

Cheers Simon
