Patrick ... many thanks for the reference! And the comment! I have lightened the rope somewhat but I'm holding back a little to try and keep the focus on the face .
Alexandros ... Many thanks!
Fast approaching completion really just the leather work and stitching to do on the back pack and then some tidy ups and a bit of matt varnish to kill a few patches of sheen caused by over handling

Glad to be of assistance for such a marvelous figure. I understand your wanting to keep the focus on the face...awesome painting by the way. But with the loop of the rope and it sitting diagonally across the shoulder...it always brings the eye up to the face...lightening it up a little more...not as bright as the face...would help give your figure a little more appeal IMHO. Here's a period photograph of a Gebirgsjäger Heeresbergführer (Army Mountain Guide) with his climbing rope in the same position and you can see the tonal values:
If you had painted that face just a litte better, i think would come alive and say:'
"Hey I'm Ed Harris..but.. What the hell happened last night and how did I end up wearing a soviet uniform??!!
Patrick .... I agree that probably the tone could be lighter on the rope but have decided to leave well alone ( I could soooo mess it up ) thanks again for the info and that shot is superb ( and added to my library of portrait shots ). Again thank you!
