Bonaparte as he enters Cairo during his campaign in Egypt, sculpted by Jean-Léon Gérôme in the ancient style known as "chryselephantine".

Makes a change from all that resin and you can always strip it back and lash on some acrylics...

Never ceases to amaze me at some of the old tat people will pay a small fortune for just because its gold coloured. Check out Harrods to see what I mean - in any of the department.

Regards Callum.

Who's this Gérôme geezer anyway? Has he got anything else on the workbench? Some WW2 stuff perhaps. He's not even a PF member. Has he worked for any of the big companies because I'm sure this sculpt reminds me of some of the early Verlinden stuff. I think he did this SAS figure, the style looks familiar.

Gerome's paintings have been a pretty big inspiration for modellers - below there's the inspiration for the Bashi Bazouk bust by Pegaso, Markos Botsaris by Alexander Miniatures and the Ottoman Chieftain by Romeo.

Also, Gerome's famous painting of gladiators Pollice Verso was an inspiration for Ridley Scott to make Gladiator.

The producers of Gladiator showed Ridley Scott a reproduction of Pollice Verso before he read the film script. "That image spoke to me of the Roman Empire in all its glory and wickedness. I knew right then and there I was hooked"
