Hi Gents,
here I am with another (last) chapter of the project concerning the 44th autonomous battery at Culqualber, Ethiopia, autumn 1941.

This young Lieutnant was Gabrio Moretti, commander of the battery and he will take part in the scene with the 70/15 gun, the kneeling buluc bascì and the gunner ascari.

I'll show the project from the very first start and hope it may help/inspire someone ...;)

I'd like to sculpt a 3d figure but I can't so I mix a lot of technichs.
I always start searching in Mixamo (https://www.mixamo.com/#/) the posture that fits with my idea and select the carachter "Mannequin" that, in my opinion, is the best one for the the next phases.

Then I export the charachter in .fbx format and open it with Blender. I find great that in Blender I can see the movement frame by frame and choose the most proper one. Then I export the selected frame in .stl.

Next step is to prepare the stl. file for 3d print, I use Prusa and this is the file imported and ready for 3d print.

And ... here we go! this is the printed mannequin and now it's time to leave the pc and start with cutter, files and putty!

OOh I'm really interested, Eppi!
I do a lot of 3D printing but the sculpting side has defeated me so far-this might be a good way in
Thanks for sharing

Hi Gents!

Some slow steps forward.

Cleaning 3d-print and dismembering parts. Left arm to rebuild, in order to match the hand already sculpted on the ascari gunner. Right hand to change.

Here a few overall views of the whole scene, just to give a meaning to the posture of each character.

That's all! Thanks for watching and don't forget to give suggestions, if you have ;)

Wow ... I realise that this poor guy has waited for more than one whole year ...!:(
Well, I just started to put some putty on it: trousers and some troubles to sculpt the shirt collar above the collar of the tropical tunic. Sometimes it was worn that way.
Hope to show something more before next year ...!
Thanks for watching!

An interesting amalgamation of digital and analogue techniques. I must admit i would have printed it with a featured face, as i doubt my ability to create one on such a basic former.

Thanks Melanie, the head is a file .stl from the net, I just imported it in Blender and slightly modified. Some minor changes, after printing, on nose and lips.
Greetings!

Hi eppi

Always good to see your updates, nice look about the trousers , natural looking folds and creases

Look forward to seeing more putty pushing on this fellow

Just enjoy it

Whatever you do, don't rush it......;):D Nice to see some progress here, this is looking good.....

Hi Gents!

According to what Simon said I'm trying to keep the momentum going :).

In this phase of sculpting I try to fix the main lines of the tunic. I know that, just now, the figure has close to nil appeal, let's say it's just ugly, but those parts I've added will guide me while adding putty here and there.

I also added the belt of the sambrowne with the double row of holes and a 3d printed buckle.

All these parts are made of paper strips fixed and hardened in position with cyano glue.

Here the 3d printed buckle:

And here the tunic I'm tryng to sculpt: it's one of the many variations of the sahariana; all officers usually had their clothes made by a tailor, so it's hard to find two identical officer's saharianas. The main feature of THIS sahariana is that the breast pocket have not the "bat wing" flaps like those shown in the last picture

Thanks for watching and any comment, hint or whatsoever will be very appreciated! ;)
