This is an older Michael Robert’s figure sculpted by Alan Ball. The pose is nice but the sculpt is pretty soft compared to current production figures. For the life of me the face reminds me of John Wayne.

I decided to paint it as the Baltimore Light Horse which is an obscure dragoon unit. Gray Tunic with Blue Facings and a Mitre.

Still in the early stages, working to smooth out the face and fine tune it. I’m experimenting with skin tones one this one.

Thanks for looking.

Ok,

Made some progress, the helmet is about done. I need to clean up the lettering a bit and it should be done. The waist coat is close to done and will need to be fine tuned when the facings are painted. I have started the tunic. I’m going for a soft warm gray. Not quite there yet but making progress so it looks a little rough.

I included the uniform plate for reference. Gray tunic with blue facings.

Thanks for looking

Mike

Hi Mike

Great progress on this , liking the gray your going for ...what's the colours your working with

The facings of dark blue will certainly make this

Nice start on the waistcoat and lettering as well

Thanks for the updates

Following with interest

He is looking good, I like that easy relaxed pose. He does indeed look like the Duke, more so actually than some of the figures that are supposed to be him!

Even at this stage it looks very good.Choice of subject is also exceptional.I like seeing interpretations of obscure and "Liitle-to-know-about" units.Following with interest.

Oda.
Thanks Oda!

Nice work so far. I definitely see a resemblance to John Wayne.
Yep the resemblance is definitely there!

Nice looking figure and lovely flesh tones. I always feel with this sort of pose, they need to lean against something, that's just me though.

I would normally say the same thing. Quite frankly this was on the bench and I’m being lazy, trying to clear some stuff off, so it gets what it gets!
Nice choice of figure.
I'll be following with interest.

Thanks

Cool. Always did like the Michael Roberts figures. Did quite a few of his ACW figures way back when.
Rick

Hi Rick, I have a couple more of his figures, 54MM WWII kits that are superbly sculpted compared to this kit. I’m looking forward to painting those this year.

Update: I think the gray tunic is about done. The facings and turn backs are blocked in and I’ll work on those over the weekend.

After painting this figure I’ve come to the decision that the sculpting is soft. Makes it much harder to create contrast. Overall harder to paint than more modern sculpts.

Don’t mind the cat!

Thanks for looking.
