    Yet another interesting story

Yep, even the military likes to celebrate a good massacre of their own. The French Foreign Legion had the Cameron, long before the collapse at Dien Bien Phu; Americans glorify Custer's Last Stand and the Alamo; the Brits have the charge of the Light Brigade and Isandwalla, the Spartans had...

    Plaster recast on Ebay

O.K. In the U.S. I'd report this slime to the appropriate State's Attorney's Office. What remedy do you have in the U.K.?

    indian sepoy 1756

Most importantly, this is a beautifully sculpted figure. What is its graphic source? And yes, it is a pity that manufacturers aren't making more of this kind of thing, but then no one buys them, saving their money for another German or American infantryman in camouflage, or perhaps a nice...

Video de sculpture d'un bras avec Benoit Cauchies

Thanks for this, Einion. Following your link, I found four stores in Phoenix that sell this brand, so off I go on Sunday to take a look.

    French officer 1754

Not only a nicely executed and very nicely posed figure, but I enjoyed the pix and account (in my limping French) of your club's activities. One of yr philosophical debates particularly interested me because it demonstrates the the differences and similarities between French and English...

    Michael Miniatures New Release

I tried to edit my earlier post when I discovered the unassembled figure 9n the gallery, but nothing happened. I also tried to correct my idiosyncratic spelling of tschapska!

    Michael Miniatures New Release

This really is nice. Do the flounders (or in this case, pom poms!) and the flask attache separately? If so, it wouldn't be hard to add a plastron, modify the czapka a bit, and make a Prussian lancer -- or has someone come out with such a bust already?

And for those trying to collect all 1,087 versions of Enigma's Superficial on YouTube, here's the one with the flesh tones and the saturated reds. (And an extra point if you recognize the woman with the luminous eyes, wearing a burqa). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5BEOOBRCF0

Video de sculpture d'un bras avec Benoit Cauchies

This is a really great couple of videos! Just note, though, that you need to start with the second posting (#2) and then go to the top posting to get them in order. If anyone is put off by not having much French, don't be. The sculptor's actions are self explanatory. Also, can someone tell me...

WIP Critique The second Prinzesin Viktoria-Luise

Ulrich: The pic that roger posted of the prinzessen standing with the very tall -- and beautiful -- Kronprinzessen Cecilie is the same as mine. I'm not really sure what those decorations are and it was probably a good idea to leave them off the figure. I noticed on your pic that the...

WIP Critique The second Prinzesin Viktoria-Luise

This may help:http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/56460358.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=45B0EB3381F7834DA51143BC9C02FA7D5B0F627A411038E376A1C53391327B7B. At least it may provide the inspiration for a second bust! The Prinzessin is clearly wearing the insignia of three orders here; are they included...

    russian cossack bust

Sorry Martin, couldn't resist! I thought of you yesterday, though, when I was checking my old club, MMSI, for the date of the Chicago Show. They have some Courcelle plates on there which include several of Cossack cavalry. You might know them already, but if not, enjoy. Go here...

    SMALLSCALEMANIA (Back to painting)

Guess I'm the only one not fooled by these so-called "miniatures". Clearly, these are simply photos of real soldiers with fake backgrounds. I must say, though that I didn't know that color photography was that advanced at the beginning of the C19th. Perhaps, here for once, our craft has become art.

    russian cossack bust

Thanks for the info and additional pix, Martin, but I don't think that we should deprive our hero of his epaulets yet. Perhaps we could have him rescue Prince Pyotr Ivanovich Bagration, who, God knows, had epaulets to spare, and reward him with a field commission?

    Why are figures so handsome?

Yes, I agree that good looking soldiers are a response partly to the sculptor's wish to provide an ideal face and partly due to consumer demand. It is also worth noting that these figures are of good-looking Caucasians. No problem for most periods, but in Vietnam, African Americans often...

    russian cossack bust

Yes, this seems to be coming along nicely; I assume that you plan on doing more work with the eyes. The shoulders could be built up a little, but I assume from the rather elaborate busby that this is intended to represent a guard regiment, and they did wear epaulets -- I remember that Zvezda...

Mantis Miniatures Animal Sets 3 And 4-Quick Review

These look great, but, alas, the scale is too small to fit in with my usual work. If I were to put them in very hot water for a very long time, is there any chance that they would swell to 1:16 scale?

    Indian Army

Carl: Can you tell us if you are looking for a specific Indian regiment? If you are looking for Skinner's Horse, and I see that the old Chota Sahib 120mm figure of a BO has been reissued under a new name, there is an excellent Almark book, Skinner's Horse by Christopher Rothero that I see on...
