    Hofi Intermodel

The Red Lancer and Historex Agents sell a brand called Hofi. Hofi produces large scale resin kits of interesting subjects at a very reasonable price, but the only pictures of their products I've been able to find are just artwork, no photos :( . I'm suspicious when they don't at least show a...

    Third One

Kamil, Looks like a good start on another WWI figure in action. One thing I like about your figures is the imaginative poses :thumb: . Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing how this one pans out. Mike

    Book Review

Research on any era of figure painting can be tough, but the more distant past the area of interest, the more difficult it can be to find useful information. Fortunately, for those of us interested in samurai, there is a resource which shows ancient armor in a modern format. The Samurai...

    Confused about bust scales

Quang, After reading your post, I was trying to figure out where I got the idea your busts were 1/9 scale. I checked some dealer sites and discovered that both Michigan Toy Soldiers and the Red Lancer erroneously list them as 1/9 scale. The Tomoe Gozen bust is #1 on my want list at this time...

    Confused about bust scales

Thanks for the info, guys. I see the point of looking at busts as stand alones. Since I must buy all my figures via mail order, though, it helps to have an idea of approximately how large the figure might be. Augie, thanks for the guidelines. I thought the Verlinden bust must have been...

    Kit Review

This kit is a bit difficult for me to review, because I am still just a beginner. I have a weakness for samurai figures, and this one is quite a nice sculpture. But the kit has a few problems that are more pronounced for a beginner. With these points in mind, here we go. As I said, I think the...

    Confused about bust scales

I've only recently become interested in busts ;) , and so far I have only three. Each is sold as a 1/9 scale or 200mm bust, and each is by a different manufacturer. Left to right in the picture below are Dynasty's Japanese pilot, Pili-Pili's Geisha, and Verlinden's Samurai. Obviously, the 3...

    Photographing miniatures

Keith, I believe Quang first posted this link a while ago. It's a site devoted to digital camera photography, and has some info on closeup photography. Mike

    Hacker attack

Apparently their home page has been hacked by someone trying to sell seccurity software to online businesses. I was able to get to the catalog using this link: http://www.redlancers.com/minimainout.asp?page=1 Mike

How learnt you has to paint?

Bruno, I have a similar problem. I live in a very rural area, 80 miles from the nearest large city. I'm not aware of anyone in my area that paints figures, so I must learn on my own. I use books, magazines, and the internet as sources for instruction, but photographs are not the same as...

    How many kits to paint?

Andy, I do a lot better in the reading department than in painting. My job essentially consists of sitting in a room and waiting for something to happen, so I get quite a bit of reading done at work. I've amassed a pretty decent library, but have only two unread volumes plus the tome I am...

    How many kits to paint?

I have to agree with you, Guy :thumb:. My experience with modeling, and figures in particular, is that one interest leads to another. I first became interested in figures through trying to learn how to make more realistic pilots for stick and tissue WWI aircraft (which I haven't built for over...

    Inspired

Welcome to planetFigure, Rodney. I work in the communications department of a Sheriff's Office in a small rural county in south central Texas. I returned to modeling a few years ago as a way to relieve stress and get my mind off the job. It also helps me while away those interminable, and...

    How many kits to paint?

Mark, Actually, this sounds like a pretty good way to do things to me :thumb:. I tend to bounce back and forth between projects, and often end up feeling as though I am accomplishing very little. I tend to enjoy the building/conversion stage, and then get distracted during the painting. I've...

    How many kits to paint?

I hate questions like this because I'm so compulsive that I have to go count kits to find out the awful truth. Tonight I counted on the shelf: 11 samurai and related kits, various scales and busts 4 mongol and related kits, various scales 7 WWI kits, 54mm, 70mm 13 miscellaneous figure kits...

Disaster - End of Modelling Carrer ?

Wow, Costas, that's quite a blow. Fortune smiled in that no one was hurt. That's quite a heads up for the rest of us to make routines safety checks of the shop. I know I live in terror of forgetting to unplug the soldering iron, but I hadn't thought to check the condition of the other equipment...

Need someone who could help me to convert a WWI fi

Markus, Metal Models makes a figure close to the first pose. It would require some reposing, but I don't think it would be too difficult. The figure is billed as a 54mm figure, but measures out closer to 60mm. As you can see from this photo, all the equipment is included, but you would have to...

When this happens, you can just knead the hardener to remix it. It has no effect on the putty that I have been able to discern. Mike

    What colour magic sculp

Alex, I use the uncolored (pale gray) Magic Sculp. I think any light color would work. That way you can easily see shadows and shapes. As far as I know, Magic Sculp has an unlimited shelf life. I bought 5 pounds 2 years ago, and it's still fine-- soft, easy to mix, and hardens properly. Mike
