BB62 Battleship USS New Jersey in Dry Dock

I still have not ever visited the New Jersey. Our Delaware Valley Scale Modelers has participated in modeling events staged onboard, in connection with a local ship modeling club. But I wasn't available. But she's on our excursion list for the MFCA, and eventually I'll get there. Prost! Brad

    New guy !

Welcome back to the hobby, Rob, and welcome to the Planet! I look forward to seeing your work, figures and ordnance both. Prost! Brad

    Completed Tirailleur Senegalese

When I moved into my house back in 2001, I had in mind a rule of thumb that anything that was still packed away 6 months after the move was something you didn't need, and should get rid of. I still have 2 rooms full of storage, 23 years later. Prost! Brad

Enamels as a primer on metal figures??

Sure thing! Yes, buildup and covering fine detail is always a concern, with figures as with scale models. It doesn't take much for a good primer coat, either. Prost! Brad

I like the horse's pose, too. In the last photo, the way his head is cocked a little to his right, it looks very natural, looks naturally animated, just the way a horse will move or fidget while he's standing there and his rider does something. That looks great! Prost! Brad

    Stripping paint off resin figures?

Second that. SuperClean is available here in the US, too-it may have originated here. It was originally a Castrol product, but it's its own brand now. WalMart and the automotive supply chains like AutoZone carry it. It used to be around eight bucks a gallon. With the lockdowns and supply...

    Help tracking these down

Not saying it's intended, but the Royalist officer reminds me a little bit of Sir Alec Guinness as Charles I in "Cromwell". Prost! Brad

Enamels as a primer on metal figures??

I prime everything, including my metal figures. Priming helps increase the odds of good adhesion for your finish coats, as well as providing a step in which you can inspect the surface more closely and find flaws that you might otherwise have missed. As far as using an enamel primer goes...

Meet the artist - We are off to Malta with STEPHEN MALLIA

Great interview, thanks for conducting and posting it, Nap! I'm going to reply to that argument, because I don't quite agree with it. I think many of the fans of fantasy wargames do as much research into their subjects as someone painting a Napoleonic hussar does. Most people outside that...

Grenadier of the Hesse-Kassel regiment Ral

Nice figure, but shouldn't he have a mustache? I thought they were required for the grenadiers. Prost! Brad

Uriah Heep! Every time I hear a commercial for the eldercare facilities around here, I hear a song parody in my head: "This is a thing I've never known before It's called seeeeeenior living This is a place I've never been before It's called seeeeeenior living" But that's as far as I've...

    Tanks with figures

Nice builds! I build scale models, too, and that was how I got to figures. I grew up in the 70s with Monogram airplanes and armor, Airfix, Revell, and other classic makers, Tamiya armor. It was expected that there would be a pilot, or crew members, a driver, and so forth. I like to see both...

Thanks, Simon! I use the new wine foil sometimes; I have friends who drink a lot of it, and when I see 'em, they usually have a bagful for me. But I also have a stash of lead foil I got from my dentist-the foil packets used to package the old X-ray blanks. I told him I used lead foil on my...

    Completed Tirailleur Senegalese

Nice progress, Simon! I missed it-what did you use for his harness? It looks like it might be some strips of foil as well as some bits of putty. It looks good! Prost! Brad

A Long Forgotten Item From the GA Box

Well done, Andrew! I paint classic figures, too, and you're a man after my own heart! I like Alan's idea, too, that he's a civilian official of some kind. Whatever he depicts, that's a nice finish! Prost! Brad

I love to see how you present the details in this small scale! The Monsieur is coming along nicely, and I love his expression! Prost! Brad

Nice progress, Simon! Yeah, I have a little stash of those fake credit cards that come in the mail for use as palettes. Though I use them mostly for mixing 2-part epoxy cement, sometimes for quick disposable palettes for paint when I might apply it without thinning it. For working with...
