I'll hope I can make it to Stresa. It's the first weekend of my vacation and I'm going to Bayern, just 60 km above Salzburg. From there it is 6 hours driving. If it's possible I'll be there only on Sunday.

very nice start.
You mentioned some figures before this, that you find painting acrylic as underlayer is only coloring the primer.
Why are you doing it know???

Marc

hi Marc
as you know I paint figures in acrylics or in oils or with both techniques.
Frequently dark colours like blue or black are painted in acrylics for different reason, first of all the matt surface! In oils is more difficult to paint completely matt.
Many of the colour will be retouched later in oils to give them more strength and a better appearance.
Continue to follow the thread you will see something that will explain the start

Looking good. Are you going to finish it using enamels or oils? Is the reason to use acrylics as base just to get the next layer something to stick to or is there another reason?

Regards Lars

Hi Lars
I use acrylics as base for the oils or to paint the subject. I'm used to paint with both techniques. As I explained above I prefer to paint dark color in acrylics due to the Matt surface I can obtain
In many case i start in acrylics till 70/80% and finish with oils.
In this case the Blu will remain acrylic as the trousers and mostly of the reds but the White will be finished in oils and the horse will be completely oils.

I started working with oils ... quite classic no particular color
in sequence from left to right on the palette of paper
Titanium White
flesh color No. 4 Mussini
cadmium yellow
naples yellow
sienna natural
burnt sienna
burnt umber
Ivory Black

I began to touch up the shirt, waistcoat and painted the plaque belt, I have worked with various white ... the warmer and colder the waistcoat (the difference between cloth and cotton)

started work on the gold tissue with a mixture of TOB, cadmium yellow and printing ink provided by our friend Dino Pivato

even the face has begun ... TOB + flesh as base and gradually brightened with flesh color pure and then with the addition of white

and now the pictures

the same palette previously described is also served for the horse.
It 'a very dark black horse, I painted integrating shades of brown in black ivory with touches of light obtained by adding the flesh to the base mix.
the metals of the saddle were obtained with a base mix of gold ink printing with TOB + cadmium yellow and little burnt sienna
in the photo is only the base

Hi Ron
I don't think I will add the trumpeter in the same base. In the canvas the trumpeter is some meter behind Le

I thought about doing about five figures from the painting but then thought it will take a couple of years :D

look forward to your updates on this one

ron
Doing a so big project is difficult because you have to stay on the same for a long time. It's a difficult attitude for me
I confess I'm admired with the people able to do that

another advancement, the revers is redefined again with the oil color and the Legion of Honor has been removed and redone.

Golden laces begins to have their definition with touches of brighter color than the base

grenades in the queues were painted as well as braiding and straps
