Thanks chaps. I can highly recommend the Classy Hobby Stuart. It’s a lovely kit, great to build.

My main worry with the figures is that I really like the heads but they look a little big. I’ll leave them removable and decide for sure once I’ve built up the bodies.

If they're from Steve the scale will be bang on scale. The bodies will probably bulk out as you add clothes etc.

They look good mate, always amazes me how little room there is in those things, a cigarette or even a pipe would be totally appropriate. Good look with the project creep, of course the photographer will.mean a bigger base!

Cheers Simon

Hi Stefan

Good to see updates on this project , you’ve done a cracking job on the tank , very impressive modelling

All credit to you on the figures , liking the names

Looking forward to seeing more

Have fun @ the bench

Hi chaps, I managed 20 min this morning and made a leg. I’m going for a pair of overalls so they are going to be pretty baggy.

Impressive mate, did you say you're new to sculpting? WOW, that's good bulk and hang of the cloth and some nice creases. Really looking forward to seeing these two progress.

Cheers Simon

Thanks chaps, that’s really encouraging. I’m now 3 legs in and really enjoying it. I’m happy with how it’s going so far, I’m finding that getting the bulk in place tends to keave some unevenness which can be exaggerated to create the creases. I’ll leave the boys overnight now I think and get another leg done tomorrow. My plan is then to do most of the body before adding pockets etc.

Looking great and it's good to know when to stop, it's so easy to squish an hours work accidentally.

Cheers Simon

A little more progress, the sleeves were a struggle, particularly on the right hand chap as the armature was weak. I’m glad I’ve got the arms posed and secure, although I’m not particularly happy with the way they’ve turned out so I might thin them back a bit and re-do some places. I think the main problem is they look too bulky and need proper cuffs, although now I look at the pics I think the hands are also too small. I’ve got some on order from royal model so might swap them out.

I’m away over the weekend but I think I need to find more pics for inspiration for the sleeves.7CD74849-A04D-4F37-AF1F-F80D80B47391.jpeg

A quick pic in the turret, they do fit, sort of. The hands really do look tiny though.

They look good but I agree the sleeves are too bulky, carve them back quite a bit and the hands will look a lot better. Just the same as the heads look the right size now you have bulked the armature out a bit more, remember the armature does not represent a naked body, just the basic shapes below the skin, muscle on a skeletal frame. If the armature for the arm is weak it may need stiffening with more brass rod. You're doing a great job though they are really starting to look the part, it can be a steep learning curve but you're acing it.

Cheers Simon

Also the tank suits have tight cuffs, so narrowing that down will make the hands look a little bigger possibly.
Steve

That's good progress but I'm glad you said the hands were too small because that was my first thought when looking at the pics. The basic animation is looking good, keep going as you are doing really well.

Thanks all. I think one of the nice things about this sculpting lark is that it doesn't matter if you get it wrong, you can always cut back and redo something. Magic sculpt is also magic, it really hits a sweet spot in terms of hardening time and workability. This morning I managed to add a little more to the torso of one figure and a couple of pocket flaps. I think I'm going to get the bulk of the torso work done then thin down the arms, add proper cuffs and sort the folds. I think the upper arms are actually not too bad but the lower arms need sorting.

Hi Stefan

Nice update , the hands don’t look as small now , get the lower arms reduced and see how it’s looking .......,like you say you can take awY and add with ease

Look forward to seeing more on this

Happy sculpting

Thanks Nap. Not much progress over the weekend as I was away but I did receive some hands I ordered in the post. I've swapped them over and think they look closer to the heads size wise.

I added cuffs last night, they are a bit thick but I'll thin them down a little when they have hardened.

Looking good, it always helps when you feel it's right rather than rely on technical measurements and such like, if it feels right it undoubtedly is.

Cheers Simon

Hands are looking good, definitely more in scale. Good start on the cuffs as well.

A little more progress, I think that’s the arms ‘finished’, next I’ll be working on the torsos.

I think they look ok so far, one of the reassuring things is that for their faults, they look better for what I want than any commercial figures do either way it was worth making them.

Here’s where they are now:

I also need to work out how to go about sculpting the cap badge:
