Lew, thanks for your comments, this is the correct camo pattern that I will be using:-

That's the very scheme, I'm putting on my smaller version. I thought you said this would take you a year Dave, you're motoring on..

I reckon another 3 weeks and thats 2 months for the tank without paint!

I then have to D & B the groundwork and church which is another 3 months I reckon so that is allowing me 7 months to paint the above plus 5 figures!!

I am very pleased with the pace but I have so far spent around 100 hours modifying the tiger and there will be a time where I will need a break.

So 12 months give or take a month, might not be a bad shout.

Have you built your Tiger yet and will it be a Vbench?

Dave

The Tiger only arrived yesterday Dave. Although I have built the tracks, those were a test of patience. On one side I put in the wrong pins, as I didn't know they were different.
Carl.

:unsure:Those are the things that drive you mad, did you read the instructions?:D:whistle::p

Dave, if you can't source some IPA let me know and I will sort some for you. That camo will test the airbrush mate. Weathering will be an interesting project in itself with all the added detail. Great progress, really enjoying this V Bench mate.

Ron

Hi

Ron, thanks for the offer mate, I'll see if I can get some if not I'll give you a shout, so many thanks.

Les, I am not in to Armour but I am really enjoying this and look forward to painting it, hope you have fun with your next project!

Update after the weekend work:-

-Track cable fixed to the side, the cable was made by myself using some 2.5mm twin & earth flex, stripping it down and selecting the right amount of copper to get the right scale.

-Zim added to the rear, with additional detail previously made.

-The pins that stick out from the mantlet were too long and lacked detail so filed down and finished off.

I now need to work on the rear exhaust's, add the rear fenders, finish and fix the cupola, finish & fix the jack and then back to some more fiddly detail in respect of the clamps/clasp's.

No worries Dave, just let me know. Additions look very good mate. Things are still progressing at a steady pace. Very impressive.

Cheers

Hi Ron

Do you have any ideas where I could buy it from (ie online shop?)

On the 321 they had some finer mesh underneath the larger engine grill, it's not an easy thing to source so being creative I settled on a £1.99 strainer from Asda, which I dismantled.

These will sit nicely underneath, with the top ones showing a bit of wear and tear, as they are too perfect at the moment.

Although a tad out of scale it's nothing too noticeable:-

Hi Dave, last I heard, which was a while ago, you could get it from pharmacies/chemists.
You could try a local printers and explain what you want it for. I have gone through 3 of those strainers now. Really cheap alternative. Another useful site for scale nuts and bolts,
fittings etc. is 'Bestbalsakits' and is run by a nice guy called Wim. They are metal not balsa by the way.

Cheers

Ron

Hi Dave,
Try a fabric shop for wedding veil/"tulle". It comes in several different varieties, from a very fine, soft weave to a larger, more stiff type with larger openings. Its what I used long ago for 1/35 kits before PE was so prevalent. For my 1/16 Tiger, I was going to use the very stiff and fine netting that Tamiya provides with several of their kits for engine screens. I think you are going to find that the screening you have now is going to be a bit too thick and large, its almost the same size as the PE mesh. The real thing looked to be about 1/3 as large as the top screen. I actually used aluminum window screen thats very similar to what you show there for my top layer, since it has a nice woven effect like the real thing, and is round in cross section instead of flat. Then the finer screen under that, with frames made from plastic strip.

Hi

Ron,thanks for that, I'll see if I can find anywhere that sells it, otherwise I may have to call upon you!

Jason, good to hear from you matey and thanks for the tip. If it is going to look more effective then it has to be worth a bash so I will have a hunt around for the stuff you describe.

Thanks for all your support
Dave

It has been a real pleasure to watch this build! talk about attention to detail! I cant wait to see just the tank finished let alone the whole diorama!

Thank you for your input and comments Ethan it is a real help.

Progress is slowing as I add more detail.

The rear exhaust stacks were in the wrong position and were badly moulded with the openings badly moulded, so re-worked and re-positioned tonight.

Also made the clasps for the front of the hull where a shovel wood sit. The shovel will not be present but my ref picture of the 321 show the empty clasp's.

I just read through this whole thread. I have to say that the amount of time and detail you are putting into this is immense and very impressive. Very nice work so far, it looks very good.

Hey Dave,
Those shovel clamps aren't actually attached, are they? I ask because they are sitting on top of the zimmerit. Did you make those yourself like the other brass stuff. They look perfect.
Its looking good, I wish I had your ability to work steadily on one project at a time and keep my concentration level up.
Cheers
Jason

Thanks for showing an interest matey, I am glad you like it and your words of encouragement are much appreciated.

@ Jay, all the brass stuff is scratch built, bent, glued (and often recovered from the carpet) by my own fair hands!

The shovel clasps are just sat on top at the moment, I will be removing small amount of Zim for them to "sit in" before filling with magicsculpt again.

I appreciate your input Jay and I have to say, not one of my works would have turned out with a decent finish if I had not had your help with historical accuracy etc.

I am not far away now:-

1)Travel lock to scratch build
2)Finish Jack & Fix
3)Complete rear exhaust
4) add rear fenders
5) complete cupola & fix
6) fix Tow cables
7) add final details to all clasps & clamps
8) study & complete weld lines

I think modelling is all about patienece, preventing yourself from distraction and rushing is the real key to making a difference.

It is also a massive help to do a VBench, because you are inspired by everyone who contributes.

Jason.............get that Tiger finished!!!!!!

Dave
