Hi Dave, spot on mate with the corner piece. What level of distress are you going for on the walls after all this work. Gonna be a shame to have to 'destroy' such a gorgeous piece of workmanship but I guess reality bites eh.

Ron

Carl, Ken & Ron

Thanks fir all your comments. The corner looked just a bit too weak to give the impression of a well built, sturdy church so this was the best solution and I'm pleased with the outcome.

I'm quite happy with the amount of distress on show at the moment as I like to keep the contrast that is often seen in blown out buildings of quite clean Walls to sharp rubble.

I have ordered 3 figures from Colorado miniatures which are on the way, I already have a jeff shui (ardennes1944) that will slip in nicely so now looking for a good tank commander and maybe 2 more SS troops in the Normandy period.

Nice work Dave, the extra piece in the corner really works well, this is really starting to look impressive now.

Steve

The church ruin is looking superb, the addition of the support to the corner looks great... I think you should cast it up :)

Put me down for one please(y)

Hinckleys my clubs show,be good to
See it in the flesh come next March...

Steve and Carl

Thanks for your support guys.

I'm not very good at sculpting figures but I think I could produce some good stuff in 1/35 and 1/16 in respect of buildings and there could be a market for some more, especially at the very popular 1/35 scale.

One of my business customers is a moulder and caster so may well be an opportunity here:)

I'll now complete the external walls before embarking on the stained glass:sick:

Hinkley could be a new benchmark but its taken me 4 months to get to this stage and i have yet to dip the brush yet so could be a tad optimistic:cautious:

Hi Dave, what did you come up with as a solution to the stained glass?

Regards

Ron

Hi Ron

I am experimenting, which frankly means I do not know lol!!

I am trying an old method of printing off a stained glass pattern from a real church window and then heavily varnishing it to mak it more transparent and brittle, I'll see how that turns out before trying with real glass.

Thanks
Dave

Just a thought for you mate, what about printing onto 'projector' sheets, the inkjet ones that are used for presentations. These are already clear and can be varnished by airbrush or can to add strength. You can also use a multiple of the same design 'layered' to give it depth. We used to use this trick for presentations at the design studio I worked in years ago.

Ron

Thanks Ron

I think I have it sorted. Your acetate suggestion gave me a light bulb moment so dropped in to Hobbycraft today and picked up some acetate.

While I was there I also purchased the paints and fine paints for glass. This can be used on the acetate so I will simply trace the pattern, use the paste for lead and then hand paint.

It should look very good when done bur will experiment first.

Cheers
Dave

Glad to help mate. Never got on with glass paints personally so substituted humbrol clears. They can be mixed for the different shades and adhere well to acetate.

Cheers

Ron

(y)Hi Ron

I'll give it a shot and report back but many many thanks for your support.

Bill, thanks for dropping by, i appreciate your comments and hope I can in some way inspire fellow modellers to venture in to the more challenging stuff.

Thanks
Dave

Dave, keep us posted on your stained glass window outcome. Very interested to see what you come up with. I like the idea of making virtually whatever you can imagine and not be stuck with market items.

So far all looks great Bro, Ski.:D

Hi All

Ron, it has to be a tank??? 1/16??? c'mon let me know lol!! & are you doing a Vbench?

Steve, thanks for your continued interest, the stained glass is going to be a huge challenge but I am looking forward to trying out the variable methods to see what fits best.

Anyway, I have now obtained 4 of the 8 figures required, the two officers will be discussing the map detail, I'll remove one of the MP40's from one of the officers to prevent uniformity, the radio guy and his mate will be under the broken window.

I need a Tiger Tank commander fit for the era and also 3 other infantry, 2 with the officers and another talking to the Tank commander.

The outside walls are now done, all I need to do is finish off some nice detail around the window moulding and once primed up I'll add some ivy to the outside corner for interest. I have temporarily placed it on the superb base so you may see how well it compliments the building.(y)

Now we see your figres, this looks to be a pretty decent set-up. Should be a doozy, I'm looking forward to it. I now you'll be loading it with detail, so I'm likin it!(y)

Cheers Dave, Ski.:D

P.S. That cork really worked well giving the ruff and stoney look, awesome.

Hi Dave, that is truly awesome and really does fit well with Chippys base. Distress is spot on and works for me on all levels. A lot of churches had Wisteria growing around doors and windows if you are looking for something different to Ivy. Figures are an excellent grouping which will set the scenic story well. May I suggest binoculars to replace the officers MP40? Also Jeff Shuis JS120008 might fit well in one of the groupings you are thinking of. It is really coming alive now and becoming more 3dimensional when I look at each update. Respect to you for your imagination and skill.
Just seen Carls post, yes a 1/16 T34 85 with full interior and engine etc. I have been given an open brief for the commission so am sketching ideas to forward to the client. So far he is torn between 'wrecked', a Berlin street ruin scenario or bogged down in the approach to Berlin. Any of those will suit me but, given the choice, wrecked would present the best way to showcase the engine and interior detail. Not sure a V-Bench would work on PF as it will not be figure heavy. Looking forward to your next update.

Ron

Mant thanks Steve & Ron

Ron, your project sounds brilliant and wish you the best of luck with everything. I am sure you will do a terrific job and your client will not be dissapointed. I love the sound of a wrecked Tank with all the guts on show!!!!

I have already looked at the Jeff Shui figure but he is dressed in winter clothing with gloves on so would not fit in with my time of year but a great figure all the same.

If any helpful souls can think of any other SS (Normandy chaps) that would fit in then please fire away.

Good shout with the Bino's for the officer, that may just do the trick. The idea is as per the title, it's meant to reflect the steady retreat from France, Normandy was very much a cat and mouse affair, So i need to capture the urgency of help and preperation along side that of thorough planning for their next move.

I am at a funny stage now, as I could fix the church to the base and then concentrate on the tiled floor and roof, but I am fearful of going backwards and forwards which could damage the base. The stained glass window needs to be one of the last things to go in as I need to paint it up first.

I suppose I could bubble wrap the sides?
