Hi

Time consuming this blockwork!!!

I have now removed the wood for the window and made sure it is a nice tight fit. I have raised it using wedges to sit flush with the blockwork but not yet fixed as I need to construct the stained glass window and add the stone effect to the surrounds to match in with the the theme.

As discussed earlier, I have also added a rounder moulding to the roof plate level which will hold the larger roof timber when I come to construct that.

I have ran out of cork mat so off to go and get some more this morning, but have some decent progress pics for you:-

Well I'm really liking what I'm seeing Dave, love the brick work and the rounded edges. That material seems to be just the right stuff. Love the outside backdrop photos too, great for the earie mood of a wrecked struture. Keep er goin.(y)

Cheers, Ski.:D

Hi Dave, what can one say to suitably praise work of this standard. Oh well, guess outstanding will have to do. Seriously mate, bloody stunning. How do you intend to distress the stonework when it is all in place? Look forward to next instalment.

Cheers

Ron

Lew,Steve,Carl & Ron many thanks for your kind words it is a great help through each phase and all your feedback is going a long way to getting it right.

Carl, the stained glass is going to be a bit experimental before putting pen to paper as it were. I have printed off a colour 3 pane stained glass window that I wish to use. The first thing I will try is to varnish the picture to make it transparent and allow a nice amount of light through which may take a few coats. I will then laminate with very thin plastic before adding the raised lead following the pattern underneath.

The thinner lead you gave me rolls outnice and flat which can then be cut using a very sharp blade and stuck on.

Failing that I will use real 3mm glass and hand paint, tracing the photo. This will have to be done in such a way so the thickness of the glass cannot be seen as it's miles out of scale ( 3mm * 16 = 48mm), this is some way off though mate as I am now starting on wall 2 .

Talking of wall 2 I have decided to have half s stone window with no glass to break up the large blockwork at the far end.

Ron, I have already started to distress the blocks on the outer right side by simply plucking out bits of cork with some small nose pliers, looking good so far bug I will not over do it yet as I need to add the polyfilla and do not wNt it to cover the rough, broken blocks.

I have gotyself some more cork and will continue on wall 2 tomorrow.

Thanks for your encouragement.

Dave

If you need anymore lead Dave give me a shout. I'm lead to believe your base will be finding it’s was home to you?o_O
Carl.

Thanks Carl

Yes, the very helpful Darren at Firefly is picking it up and I will then collect from him.

Everyone is so helpful around here, a really great community.

Cheers
Dave

Hi

More progress over the weekend.

The Ruin is starting to come together now in respect o the basic stonework. You will note I have added a stone frame where a religous statue wil stand to break up the large area of bolckwork, and you can also see the pen marks for the blown out secondary window.

The corners needed to be matched up along with the lower stone mould. On the top, larger mould, I will be adding an interesting corner piece to join the two together.

I have yet to decide on the statue but I like the thought of an imposing figure standing over the Tiger as though the scene suggest's good standing and ultimately triumphant over evil.

Just slipped the Tiger in so you can see size and perspective, there is a ton of detail to add in to the church once the blockwork is done, but do not forget that I have to add the stonework to the exterior first:eek::-

Hi Jay

Thanks for your help as always. They are great figures but are too small.

I need something around 75mm with around 25mm pedestal. I have to say it is proving a bit difficult at the moment even with the help of my old mate Google!!

Ron & Steve, thanks for your words.

Steve, the ply has to be 12mm as it needs to form a solid piece once screwed and glued to gether to sit on the base, otherwise it is just too flimsy for the size.

Off hunting for religious figures:)

The stone work is looking good, like the stringer courses just above ground level , hope you remembered the "damp proof course" LOL:eek:
and you have got your arches together as well, all looking good.(y)

Great progress with the building work Dave, looks very impressive already, just been catching up with your work now and it has come a long way from the initial sketch.
One concern is its size, have you submitted planning permission :) building control might want to check it also to see it complies with latest thermal regulations :).

Looking forward to seeing more, doing a great job mate.

Steve

Ooops, miscalculated the measurements on the statue. Why the rest of the world can't see the superiority of Imperial measurements is beyond me!!!:D

Lol thanks Steve, I got planning permission from the Mrs!!

Wee bit more progress.

I have ordered another window for the far left as you look which will be badly damaged.

Also will add a nice corner peice for the top moulding:-

Hi All

Had a fortnight break from it all, giving me a chance to takes stock and research a bit more. I have finally rcvd the other window and also managed to find the perfect statue.

The statue will be primed and repainted in a stone effect to match the walls and mouldings.

I am ready to start the outside now, once this is done I will add the polyfilla and join the two walls together before embarking on some roof structure and stained glass window:-
