Thanks for the interest. There are lots of ideas for further projects running through my head but I shall restrain myself. One of the lessons I have learned of late is not to rush the painting process to get to the next sculpting project.

I don't think a Waterloo trilogy of Wellington, Napoleon and Blucher is likely as David Grieve has already done that so well.

Colin - crossed arms are the most likely at this stage.

I found a reference to a still life painting in the Royal collection by Gibb (sadly no illustration) that describes it as Wellington's Waterloo hat, sword and telescope. The hat is described as having rosettes of two of Wellington's foreign "orders" on the cockade so that makes me more comfortable with my guess.

Colin - delving into the Glasgow historical records I found your research on that hat may be well off the mark

This one is a little more convincing...

This is actually my second Wellington. My first was started about 15 years ago but never finished. A 1/48 scratch vignette of Uxbridge and Wellington at Waterloo entitled "By God, I've Lost My Leg!." Here are the figs (Wellington's sword scabbard was broken).

Colin,

That is blooming great , lovely arm position holding the telescope ...

If I may comment there looks like a flat patch on his right upper arm ?

.......looking forward to the painting of this ...notebook at the ready !

I think it's looking very natural Colin. It's especially strong from the quarter-view taken from the right side - shows off that "aquiline profile" (he ain't "Old Nosey" for nuthin'!) and the telescope to great effect . Looking forward to seeing him painted up.

"By God, Sir, so you have!";)

Cheers,

Brian
