This is really lovely! It's incredibly lifelike and I like what you've done with the dirt and goggles line. I think it's pretty convincing as dust/powder residue. The flesh tones you've gone for are great - what shades did you use?
Stefan thank you , I start with 3 colors all Vallejo, light flesh, black red and beige red which take care of all highlights and shading along with base coat. I preshade with black and white and use glazes, I incorporate other colors along the way once all base colors are laid down. These include two shades of orange, cavalry brown, cork brown(glaze), field blue ,dark sea blue, golden barok red oil paint glaze and finally red acrylic and not in this .
Steve, I'm pleased to have helped, as for dirtying the rest of the uniform! There is a reason I don't weather any of my figures, I'm bloody hopeless at doing that sort of thing. Anyway considering you are still getting the hang of acrylics this figure is brilliant especially the face i can't wait to see what you do when you have them well within your comfort zone!

Cheers Simon
Simon sorry I forgot to add the lol after my invitation to send him to you. Thanks for your help so far it’s helped me get past a difficult step in his process and I appreciate it tremendously! These acrylics are easier than oils but still give me fits!
Great job on the face, and the figure itself is progressing nicely.

Malc

Malc thank you so much for your continued support!

Thanks Steve, that's quite a list. I need to be more adventurous with my use of non-flesh tones. I currently use a little bit of red or blue or khaki here and there, something to think about for my next project.

Catching up on this, it looks really good. The dirt effect is great and the overall figure looks great. And I'm pleased to hear about your basic flesh palette, as that's the one I am getting to grips with.

Thank you sir and good luck with your continuing use of those colors, I have completed a bit more of him . Final dullcoat and weathering and he’s ready for his ride.

Love the colours you have used on the uniform, they make a dull colour look nice and interesting.

Cheers Simon

Good morning Steve. This has just made a great start to my Saturday morning! I've really enjoyed reading through your appraoch and thoughts and then seen the many helpful comments and praise [well deserved] and the way you have further 'worked' the areas under discussion. This is the full benefit of a website and Forum as good as this one....thanks Melanie for encouraging me to visit and use it!
Steve, keep up the fabulous work....I now want to get into the workshop for an hour this afternoon to work on my new figure, such has been your inspiration. Much appreciated.
Kim

Simon, Nap , Malc and Kim I apologize for taking so long to respond, thank you all for taking the time to post and take a look at the progress , you guys are keeping me going here !

I haven’t painted any armor in a very long time and that was basically dry brush , oil paints and add some mud so I’ve been learning all these new techniques. He still needs final dirt, turret needs some work I have a Thompson on the way but it’s getting closer to completion.

Steve,
Wow!! I just keep coming back to look at the various areas and items that make this 'bust+' so good, due to the paints and techinques used. Too many to mention, but for me, the ribbed jacket cuffs, the dry brushing of the 'gun' and the camo colours and textures on the tank turret. The photos are great too, which is why I keep coming back! I trust you have enjoyed this too?
Thanks,
Kim

I agree, you have done a great job on the turret and equipment, the whole thing looks really good. Awaiting those finishing touches.....

Looks really good. My first thought when I saw the face was "what's going on there?" Then I realised it's the outline of the goggles that have kept the upper part of his face clean. Very clever!

Steve, I've got a plumber/builder in at the moment, ripping out my bathroom and turning into a 'wetroom'!! Three weeks+ work...ugh! However, he came downstairs and saw me looking at your figure again...enlarged to see the wonderful detail in the painting. He said, 'boy he got dirty', I said, 'yes superb painting this chaps done on his model'.....he said 'model?, I thought that was a photograph of a real person with that dirt and all!' So there you have it, a short discussion took place and he was really, really impressed with your figure!! Congrats again.
Kindest regards,
Kim

Simon , Steve and Kim, I’am glad to hear from all of you because I had pigments up next to get those colors to pop but may just leave him alone. He was cross eyed but has been corrected and I have new glasses on the way so all should be good in the future.
Kim thank you for sharing that story with me, this has given me the boost I needed to get me over that last little hill.
His hands scared me but we’re actually very easy to make grimy.
