I went to the craft store and bought the wood base and a disc of foam.
I am cutting in half and glueing it onto the base.
These 2 pieces will be shaped , i will heat up a butter knife and mold it a little, then add putty to some areas, that way i do not have to use a lot of putty.
I added 2 figures forbsize reference..

I have finished the grey/white areas, started on the blue cuffs and turnbacks.
Probably some of you did not notice that i jave use different blues for the cuffs / turnbacks ( same blue), trousers another blue and again for the vest.
The reason i do this is that coats were made ( mostly) with the same fabric at certain locations, usually the cuffs and turnbacks ( if they were same color they would have been from the same fabric).
Vest and troussers were made separate andbsome other fabrics as well.
At the end of the day, when i add lights and shadows t all look more less the same.
It is just a good excuse for me to use different bottles of blue i have.

That's a big old base Daniel, I reckon you could get another 30 troops on there! Don't know if you have the same sort of stuff your side of the pond, I use Das Pronto air drying clay for most ground work. Basically it is a very fine papier mache and is great at creating the top layer of the ground work.

Nice touch with the different blues, I thought I saw a slight variation but just put that down to the arcane art of photography. It certainly adds interest to the figures even if it isn't readily visible to the casual observer it still does its job.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Mate,
I will look for that Das pronto, I am sure there is something similar here.
I saw a spray can that was “ Foam for modeling” but the cost was a tad high.

Very good research on the different fabrics. It's a pity these figures are only 40mm so the effect will be very hard to see but we all know it's there!
Thanks Nigel, I second your comment about the size and color , and then if you add the fact that cameras do their trick on not resembling 100% the true color.
Cheers!
