Hi Mike

I am liking the way your thinking on the weapons , look forward to seeing the results ,particularly with the 1776 pattern

Have fun with that 3D printer

Excellent use of technology, I really do need to sort my 3D printer out, only had it 2 years so far.

Cheers Simon

Put the plug in ...just saying ....LOL

Extremely interesting journey and process and so far outcome.Definitely following this. And to answer your initial question,I have reached this point in my (modeling) life where just painting miniatures is not enough instead I want to paint the miniatures as they exist in my head and in order to do that reposing is very often necessary.

Oda.

I was able to print off a few rifles. I am pleased with the results, and I was surprised that the sling loops even survived the printing process. Painting is needed to do the detail justice. You can't see any of it really.

One of the advantages of 3d printing is scalability. I would like to sculpt some 90 or 120mm figures that use this rifle, so getting a weapon for them will be very easy. I will probably work up 3d models of some of the other standard equipment like cartridge boxes and water bottles.

That looks really good, it's getting boring now saying I should unpack my 3D printer but I can see the advantages just looking at this figure. Time to man up I suppose.

Hi Mike

Apologies for late post on updates , the weapon looks good and adds much more to the figure itself

The head sculpt is coming on

Very nice head, I thought he looked really hard and battle ready without the hair but the bonnet and are great. What putty did you use for the bonnet, is that FIMO?

Cheers Simon

I figured that the Jason Statham look wasn't period appropriate, so he got hair and a bonnet. I used Milliput Terracotta to do the hair and bonnet and the feathers. I will use a slightly different approach with the feathers next time. I tried to make them all in one go. Next time, I will probably do it in two stages; make an armature first with the basic shape, and then add the fluffy feathers afterwards.

I have never used the terracotta version, though I don't use Milliput at all these days. It is very helpful having different colours to separate different details out, it can be hard to see when it's all the same colour.

Cheers Simon
