What do you use to sculpt? I am still experimenting.

Mike hi I have gone over to Magicsculpt for just about everything, I was introduced to it by the late Roy Hunt. It isn't anywhere near as messy as milliput and is initially softer to work with, some folk wait for it to stiffen a little but I prefer it fresh and soft. It is available through El Greco in the UK but as far as I remember it is manufactured in the USA, unfortunately I don't know any trade outlets. It mixes very nicely with Duro/Kneadatite/Greenstuff which makes it a bit firmer depending on ratios. It also carves, sands and drills very well and holds good detail, also cheaper than Aves!

Cheers Simon

Magicsculpt. Interesting. I have used Aves, but it is expensive.

Magicsculpt is available on Amazon. In a 5 pound vat no less. Does it last on the shelf? It will take me a while to sculpt 5 pounds of stuff.
I like that it gets hard. Green stuff and Milliput are slightly springy after curing.

You can get a 300 or 150 gram from https://www.elgrecominiatures.co.uk/collections/magic-sculp

I’ve had the 300 for nearly 2 years and it’s fine , you can vary the hardening time depending on the mix

I find it easier to use once it’s gone harder a touch

5 lb is a he'll of a lot of putty, I'd say Regiments worth. So long as it is stored airtight Magicsculpt seems to last well. The lighter grey part can form a hard shell if left open to the air for a long time. The darker grey can get pretty stiff, however a few seconds in the microwave solves this. A few seconds only though, I know a bloke who left it in there for a minute and lost lots of skin on his hand!

Try a smaller size if you can get it.

I really like the changes that you have made, especially the replacement head.

Thanks. I was trying to capture the look of the Scot in the photo I attached earlier. This is the first 75mm head I have sculpted. Also the first time I used aluminum balls for eyes. I have yo say that is a great technique I read about on this forum.

Your piece is ultimately much more interesting than the basic model. Well done, the result is superb and what's more you have a unique character !!
