Ok I thought I would post a few photos of a figure I did last year. I figured I would post a photo of the sculpt almost done and a photo of the finished figure. I am new here and I thought it might be a good way for me to interduce myself.

Ok here is a shot of him finished. This figure was an exercise in drapery. I was looking for something to do and I thought of an old painting by Larry Elmore that I liked. He is 54mm. I took photos of just about every step of the making of this figure. This was the fist time that I did that.

Jeff, You interpreted Elmore's painting really well, I realised it was a miniature of one of his paintings right away. It's really great seeing a mix of subject matter in this section. Show us more...please. :) ~Gary

Jeff,

Very nice work on the figure, really like the feel of the robe. If you can post more pictures of your sbs and also welcome to the planet.

Joe

Thanks for the kind words guys. I will post some more photos of him. Gary he is not a exact copy of the Elmore painting. I changed the boots to make them look more medieval The ones in the painting look a little to cowboy for me. He also does not have quite as much stuff hanging form his belt. I used comerical parts to build up the basic pose. It was all about the robes and what I coud do with them. The orb has a fiberoptic strand that runs in to it form behind and it glows, but it is had to see in the photos. here is a shot of the basic parts I have only done one boot and a little bit of his hose.

Yes for the Caesar I am working on a section of tree house and the tree to hold it up. I have got a start but I have not got any thing really worth looking at yet. I will post some photos of the tree house and the figure in progress if any one would like to see it.

Jeff, Thanks for posting the additional photos. Be it an exact copy or not, your figure looks like an Elmore painting. I like your Caesar figure also. I really like your choice of subject matter, can't wait for more.~Gary

This type of stuff is kind of a new direction for me. When I first started painting I did 25mm gaming figures I did some 54mm stuff but mostly I did a lot of gaming stuff This was back in the 80's. My best friend and I would paint figures to sell at local Cons. We did one here in LA every year for about 5 years. Larry Elmore would come to it. He liked our work and would trade prints of his work for our figures. He was a really nice guy and I have always loved his work. Then one night in the early 90's My best friend and I to went to a SCAHMS meeting and the rest is history. I joined in 94. After that my main focus was historic stuff. It has only been it the last few years that I have started to combine the two two things. Though I tried some diffrent things over the years. Like this little guy.

Gary your work is really great and I have learned quite a few things from reading your in progress CSA medic piece. Really great work. Will that piece be a commercial figure?I am just now getting back in to sculpting heads form scratch. I have a long way to go.

Jeff, Thanks for the kind words. The Confederate Medical Corps guy is really being done just for the sbs. There are no plans to produce it though I may consider it if someone is interested.

Though military/historical subjects are what I do, I think a lot of these non-military/historical subjects are great. your Chaplain figure is really a cool little piece.~Gary
