Been finishing up (or trying to) a couple of projects which have been hanging around for a while. This one is the 54mm Nocturna kit of 'Merlin'. Lovely sculpt in resin and one of the delicately sized 54's. I had a minor issue with the staff being warped (easily straightened in needed) but would definitely recommend them if you fancy something different (unless you are already a painter of fantasy stuff in which case you know how good they are!) :)

As I said the staff was a bit bent and the lovely owl on top seemed a bit too much so I decided to make a new staff up and drilled out the hand (carefully) to fit it.
Painted in my usual acrylics I really enjoyed this one. Originally destined for a snowy landscape I decided at the last minute to change it to a wooded scene which meant a few extra hours work tweaking the colours to help them fit the scene better. I also added a few details to the landscape to help tie the base to the figure.

Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did
Thanks for looking
Paul

Here are a few pictures of the mushrooms which I added to the landscape to bring his colours back into the woods and tie them both together. Made from Magic sculpt and MS mixed with Duro. I made lots of different sizes and glued the dried pieces together with superglue. A bit fiddly, but good fun :)
Cheers

Hi Paul,
Fantasy stuff usually leaves me cold but this piece is stunning!
Extremely well executed, hats off to you.

Bill

Thank you very much gents :D

(Really enjoyed this one despite having to repaint the eyes after it was 'finished' because I thought I'd just add a little tweak then suddenly the eye's didn't match and . . . .well I guess we've all been there )

Can't beat the old magic mushrooms eh Bob? (I obviously spent too long at College watching folks scouring the ground for them at lunchtime)

I kind've know what you mean Bill - lot's of heaving breasts and improbable muscles painted in high relief seemed to be the norm a few years ago, but some of the recent pieces I've studied have been fabulously conceived and painted. As Alan says dabbling in something different occasionally works wonders :)

Stay safe folks

Hi Paul :). Really beautiful work. I like the atmosphere and the details (mushrooms and moss on the other side of the trees, it's all amazing :). The old man, Merlin, obviously full of determination, looks wise, and also hard, rough ... He's really such an atmospherically mysterious, full of anticipation ... What's coming now? Is he going to talk? Conjure? Combat? Beautiful sculptural work on a figure from NM, but I especially like your color design and work on the terrain and trees. Really great vignette !!!

Cheers Borek :)

Hi Paul

Now that's different for you , you obviously enjoyed it , looks a lot better in this landscape rather than it would in snow IMO

Love the whites and the "muchroom" for any more mushrooms ........I'll get my coat...lol

Groundwork looks spot on mate

Cheers Busty - definitely enjoyed this one. Groundwork was done in my usual way (Das clay with a mix of materials including coffee grounds, natural moss coated with PVA and trees assembled from various twigs and roots joined together with accupuncture needles and putty as well as teh mushrooms);)

On to the next one
Paul
