Thanks everyone for the encouragement.
I'm always nervous about posting my painting efforts on this site full of masters, so it really does help.
Thanks again

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

We all have different skills. I am trying to improve my individual figure painting but I don't think I will ever get close to the top level. It's fun improving though. Part of why I am trying figure conversion is that making a unique scene is something that requires a different set of skills, and IMO the individual figure painting isn't as important as the storytelling. People look at the scene and the story first, less so the individual figures. So if you have a painting style that is consistent and fits with the story you are telling, then that's good. You clearly have mastered the conversion part of this!

There's very few people that can master both painting and figure modelling/sculpting (and effective groundwork/basing). Many of the fantastic dioramas/vignettes you see at something like World Model Expo are the work of more than one person.

We're all trying to improve and should concentrate more on enjoying what we do rather than being better than each other! Comparison can eat contentment for breakfast!
Many of us LOVE what you're doing Neil. Who cares whether it's the best, you seem to be enjoying it and I for one am one who is really enjoying watching it develop. Please keep it coming and remember to enjoy what you do!!

Many thanks indeed for the kind words; point well and truly taken!
I'm certainly not competing with anyone but myself, but the beauty of an environment like this is that there's plenty of examples of excellence to aspire to. I just want to improve as a painter, and posting here somehow enables me to be more objective .
Thanks again

I am delighted to announce that Fusilier 5 is finally painted- wahoo!
He's been through a few iterations on the way, but I have to say I am much happier with him, especially now he's painted-I just have to matt down his pack, which is still shiny from the ink.

It has been pointed out to me that his hands don't match his face; this is the consequence of using the face from the original Fusilier 2 which I painted over a year ago, and it didn't occur to me to try and match it. I'll deal with it next time I get the paints out, but I am rather done with painting for the time being. The new Fusilier 2 doesn't seem to have quite the same problem, thank goodness.
Thanks for looking in
Neil
