I see Airfix are re releasing their 1/32 Multipose military figures. I am sure this will be pleasing news to figure conversion fans - I have seen much figure conversion works over the years using these figures indeed I had to paint a set of Mexican 19th century soldiers based around the 8th Army Multipose set.

But I was always curious why Airfix went against the grain and went with 1/32nd not just with their figures but their vehicles. I always thought it a mistake - however their figures were always a popular starter for converters.

Well I too am old - well officially at the end of August I am!

But 1/35 was the standard surely? Monogram etc before Tamiya.

I remember some Monograms at 1/35 - but hey - the majority of armor and figures are 1/35 and were at the time when Airfix did their multipose.

I recall reading somewhere that Tamiya were intending 1/32 scale armour but somewhere along the line they ended up with 1/35th scale armour so they announced it as their scale and it took off. I think Monogram was 1/32. I've no idea if this story is true and as always stand to be corrected.

You're right Adrian - it was their first offering that went wrong so rather than re-tool...
