Thanks, guys. All the credit should go to the sculptor and the painter.
:)

Hello Taesung, This one is splendid. The bearded face is my favorite with this one. The sculpting by Ju Won Jung is excellent, with very crisp textures on the u-boat leathers, and character on both the faces. The painting by Man- Jin Kim, is among some of his best to date. I hope someone will release a section of a u- boat, or maybe a section of a sub pen dock, to display this beautiful figure on. Congrats to you and your team at Alpine. Regards, SG:woot::happy:

Wonderful sculpt and painting, altogether a super figure and I think, one for the bag going home.
One thing I notice, I thought that U-boat commanders always wore a white top on their cap. A badge of honour no one else was allowed!

Good Morning Taesung. Yes I know there are other officers onboard a U-Boat but German Captains (your title says he is a Captain) were fiercly proud of their position and no one else dare wear a white top.
It is a beautiful sculpt though and I for one will be buying one. I even know who it will be named after, a friend who is a recently retired German Naval Officer.
Wonderful sculpt indeed.

Hi Don,
while it is correct that several of the German U-Boat-Commanders preferred the white top (which initially should just have been worn when on service abroad) there were several others who did wear the regular cap with blue top. Among them aces like Otto Kretschmer, Reinhard Suhren and Heinz Schaeffer. See pics below - it`s like Sauerkraut - we Germans are famous for it but not everybody has to like it to be a proper German:joyful:

If you are nitpicky at the extreme Taesung is right (according to regulations) in showing the Captain wearing the beard (on campaign) with the white top and clean shaven (returning from a mission) wearing the blue top. But regulations are like Sauerkraut....
Cheers, Martin

Hey Martin, it seems I owe you and Taesung an an apology, sorry for the confusion I may have caused. Had never seen the photos of Captains without a white peaked cap on the bridge and my mate was never in a German submarine let alone a U-boat. He was in "targets" as out submariners tend to call surface ships.
Thanks for the photos and for making things clear to me.
Next time I will think before I open my mouth. (LOL, no I wont)

Hello Taesung, You are quite right about other officers wearing the blue top. I know it is just a movie, a very authentic one by the way, but in Das Boot this photo gives a good example of of what your talking about. Regards, SG

The capt. of U-48 wore a cap with blue top it seems : http://www.uboat.net/men/schultze.htm
Otherwise, the figure reminds me of the pictures of Prien, the capt of the U-boot that sneaked into Scapa Flow, but that may be just a personal impression.

... And also otherwise, I pre-ordered this figure and am now trying hard to resist buying the Revell 1/72 Type VIIc U-boat !! Aaargh were are those pills !

That is very interesting. Very good choice of subject. Actually I do not do such a large scale, but I am very tempted by this one!

Both are possible - blue and white!

Following the official regulations actually also a U-Bott-captain has to wear a navy blue cap.

The white cap was a "buzz" that became common after the U-boats were so successful in 1940 and their commanders were hyped up by the propaganda as "war heroes" ...

The whole thing is about to ompare with RAF fighter pilots, leaving open their top coat button ...

Cheers

Hello Taesung, Could you please tell us if this U-Boat Captain is modeled on a particular individual? Johan thought it might be Prien, but I'm not sure. Here is a painting of Prien, by Wolf Willrich:

Ju Won Jung has done an exceptional job of sculpting this figure, and I would like to add the figures name, (if there is one) to the base plate. This is a very interesting figure, and would like to make sure that my references are accurate. Thanks Taesung, hope you can help. Also, I've included some reference photos, for those who plan to own this great new figure from Alpine. Regards, SG:happy:

To "married" with the another 120 mm of Alpine, SS tank commander with Kriegmarine leather jacket , of course, it have to change the head (use the second face) . Very good idea Taesung and original ! Amazing job of sculpt and painting; Thanks
