This is looking very good indeed and the in progress shots/comments are very helpful. Would you mind sharing the colours you used to shade the white kurtka?

As they say a picture says a thousand words ........you’ve successfully showed the evolution of the piece to a work of art

Great to see the rather dashing Hussar in several scales .......will the 90 be next ........we shall see..lol

Have fun @ the bench

Nap
Thanks Nap. Fournier hasn’t arrived yet. Marmont is assembled and primed. And I have 3/4 of “The Duellists” done that I need to circle back on. We shall see if Fournier arrives to save me from the Duke of Ragusa.

Lancer this AM. Should get some time on him this aft.

Thank you Nigel.

Base: Tube Scale Color Off White
Shadows: Add Rowney sepia ink to the base in varying mixes
Overall Wash: diluted sepia ink
Highlights: Base
High highlights: Tube Scale Color Art White

I prefer the off white with sepia wash look as it gives a more pleasing shade to an early 19th uniform than a crisp white would. After all, Tide hadn’t been invented in Napoleon’s time. 😉

Thanks Colin, that is very helpful. As I mainly paint WWI figures I haven't done any white uniform work for a while. I have a 75mm drum major Senot figure in the "to do" pile and those colour references are very useful.

Colin, this is such a wonderful figure and your painting of it has been an inspiration; thanks for the time spent explaining your approach and techniques. I shall return to it many times in the next few years [D.V.], when I attempt to improve my approach and painting techniques on the growing 'grey and metal army' in my workshop!
Regards,
Kim

Thanks for the feedback Kim. Nice to hear it wasn’t overkill. I was a bit uncertain. Cheers
