This piece from TBF arrived whilst I was away and I couldn’t resist making a start this morning. The figure is really nicely detailed and only needed a little cleanup. I like the base it comes with too. I’ve started by cleaning, priming and airbrushing on some basic colours.
I managed to work on the eyes a bit yesterday and today I started on the face. I’ve mapped out the basic highlights and used washes to put some pinks in the cheeks and a slight blue shade around the chin. I’ll probably leave him until tomorrow when I’ll push the highlights again and try to build a little more texture into the skin. Please feel free to critique, not least because at this stage I can follow advice and make it look like it was my plan all along.
I would wait till you're finished with the skin tones before any adjustment, then it will all tie in nicely together. That blue though is great what colour did you use to get it so. Vivid and bright?
Well that's Good to know, I'm using the dark prussian to do a French tunic not sure I could get it that intense though, mind it would look very odd if I did. Waiting for your next up date with baited breath.
It’s coming together very well indeed the eyes are coming alone well and the flesh tones are working your on the right track with this. It’s all in the expression on his face and I think your capturing it very well. Keep it up, your going to end up with a very nice Bust indeed.
The challenge I think is catching the ‘regimental grandad’ look that is so beautifully sculpted here. It’s going to take some careful washes etc to give some life to the face.
I’m sure you will do a great job on him. Offo did a fantastic job on him as always. Yes I think carful washes will bring out the features more. He is one of our favourite busts in the AWI range. They are all great but just something about him that brings a smile to the face.
I think it’s time to leave the face alone for a bit and work on the rest. Sorry the pics aren’t great. I think I need to work more on blending in the shadows and the eyes still seem very bright. I’m hoping that when I’ve painted the cap and so on that’ll be less of an issue.
Hi Stefan that is looking great already, just adding colour to the skin has put the eyes in to context, I think the bright blue works perfectly with his expression.
