That’s an excellent question. I’m thinking maybe a thick oil wash of dark umber, while it off and then add a few highlights. Does that make sense?

Edit: I had 5 minutes and did it. I think it’ll look pretty good with some highlights.

Mr Colour that looks really good, also putting on with the airbrush has made the coverage really smooth. When the back is painted it'll be stunning. Cheers Simon

Excuse the naff pics, here’s where I’ve left him today. The uniform is mostly done, I think I might need to lighten the blue a touch, though I’m happy with the red. I’ve added some highlights to the cap and painted in the black. Next I need to think about how to approach the hair (black wash then very pale grey in fine strokes I think. I might whiten the cross belts a little too. It’s been a joy to paint so far.

He’s turning out quite well, so glad your enjoying him. It’s the face that does it he’s so jolly it’s well sculpted which gives you the painter a chance to bring the best out in him. And I must say it’s been a pleasure watching you bring him to life.

He’s just gone off for box art being done, when it’s finished I will post here too.

Hi Stefan

This has moved on quickly , I would lighten the crossbelts as you said and also put highlights on the hair "rolls"

Look forward to seeing more on this

Have FUN @ the bench

Nice job it’s turned out very well, as nap says a bit more highlights on the hair rolls and on the cross belts. If you can give the belts a little. Worn look a bit distressed on the brown leather. Just a thought .

Cheers Steve, will do.

I think this is done, highlights added to the hair and belts a little lighter. I’m going to leave him a day or so and come back to tweak it a little. I’d like to add some wear to the dark strap so need to think about how.

Hi Stefan

You've definitely cracked on with this , please do post pics in the Completed forum as well if you wish

If I might suggest before that , have a look at the epaulette , there's white showing on the edge

Happy benchtime
