The latest Testament of Youth had Alicia Vikander in the title role. Although it wasn't 100% faithful to the book, it was an excellent film. Emily Watson was the mother in this as well as in War Horse.

Thanks for the info Mike.
Kit Harington played Roland Leighton in the 2014 remake. I remember now that I watched it some time back.
It's a good movie but I think the mini-series from 1979 was a better version. IMO Cheryl Campbell simply nailed the part of Vera Brittain.

For an entertaining movie based on the Wilbur Smith book of the same name, and very loosely based on historical events, (hmm, very, very loosely at that), I'd highly recommend "Shout at the Devil".
It's got the rare sight of Roger Moore actually earning his loot and doing a bit of acting for a change, and to be fair he does a pretty good job of it in this WW1 romp.
There's also the unforgettable Lee Marvin being Lee Marvin.
Great flick.

There's a full-length HD copy on YT as well.

Just as an aside, I've always wanted to see a movie based on another of Wilbur Smith's single volume tomes.
"Cry Wolf", which features the pre-WW2 Italian invasion of Abyssinia as the background to the story.

At one point in time, I meant to build a diorama depicting one or other scenes from the story. Even got a WW1 Rolls -Royce A/C to use with it, but like a lot of my ideas nothing ever came of it.
Still got that RR A/C though, so who knows -- I might revisit that idea one day.

The Wipers Times was really good IMO. AFAIK it wasn't a play, it was scripted for TV by Ian Hislop, who those in the UK will know from Private Eye.
