This is an article form the curator of ship models at the Naval Sea Systems Command. It explains the problem of led rot that they have to deal with on older ship models. It is long but if you have figures of a smiler vintage then this could be a problem that you will have to deal with. It is very informative.

I have been pretty lucky I got in to the hobby as the materials that figures were made out of improved, less lead meant higher detail so not a big problem for me, but some of you may have some figures that could be an issue. Or parts that could be an issue such as flags and banners made of lead.
