Does anyone have a source that does not charge an arm and a leg for postage to ship 1 lb canisters of Aves? Most sites I've been to charge almost as much as the putty itself. It just seems like $8.00 and up for something weighing a pound is a little much. ~Gary

Not sure I can help but I'll try . . .

Gary:

One of my good friends, Chris Merseal owns CRM Hobbies in St. Louis,
not too far from you in the Keystone State. I've been using Apoxie Sculpt
for years, altho I am not a sculptor, meaning two of those tubs last me
for 3 or 4 years. I love the shelf life of that putty. On a number of
occasions I've ordered ApoxySculpt from Chris Merseal and the service is
very good, and fast.

I just checked the Aves Studio web site, and indeed, they want $8.50
to mail it. Like you, that seems way too much money, for that amount of
weight.

Chris at CRM introduced me to that putty and I swear by it. You can call him
to get his postal rates at 314 - 832 - 4840 or you can e-mail him at:

[email protected]

Chris specializes in kits that are hard to find. And he carries a great deal of
any company to do with plastic modeling and figures. His address is:

5101 Eichelberger, St. Louis, MO 63109

Oh I almost forgot. You need the hours he is there, if you phone:

Mon thru Thurs - 11am til 5pm
Friday 1 pm til 7pm
Sat. 10am til 7pm
Sunday, closed

I hope this helps, Gary

Postal rates have increased over the last few years but the rules have changed a bit too. I used to be able to send a pound kit anywhere in the States or APOs for $4.85 using Priority Mail flat rate envelopes. It was $11 anywhere in the world. They won't accept the envelopes for that use anymore and a one pound kit boxed weighs over a pound, so rates vary by distance and get expensive.

Aves is a great product, but they don't discount that much and charge shipping for vendors (which is expensive due to the nature of the product and minimums). As it is, I sell it more as a service for my customers than for profit. Unfortunately I don't sell pound kits anymore, under the new postal rates and rules, I would lose money on each pound unless I raised postage (or calculated per shipment).

Isn't it sold in some stores, too? I'm trying to remember if I saw it in the sculpting section at Michael's, AC Moore or HobbyLobby.

I bought mine online, direct from Aves, but I got the smaller containers, and shipping was only a couple of bucks.

Prost!
Brad

I'd be interested if there is anywhere in Canada I can buy the Aves Clayshay as well. It's like plaster of paris but doesn't shrink at all. I have a partial tub left I bought from a LHS but he's out of business now. It's great for fig bases.
Any thoughts?
