Before pulling the heated plastic over the former I covered the shape in-tin foil as also plastic, the thin heated plastic temperature reduces in seconds and you have but seconds to create the shape, might take half a dozen goes to get right but it’s only a bit of styrene sheet. Some people use scrap packaging for the same including clear plastic for moulding canopies etc, but not tried that.

Yes, I tried using an old yogurt tub for my samurai's cuirass (still unsure whether to do a laced do maru style or a nuidobe do with laced lames or a hotoke do solid style one... decisions, decisions....)

What are you using to heat the plastic? I used to use my Mum's gas cooker ring (that was in the 60s, N Sea gas was just coming in!) and the problem was forming bubbles and/or letting off noxious fumes then bursting into flames (I did query Captfeu re this and his 100% recycled plastic pieces)

I suppose that nowadays you could use an electric blow torch/paint stripper on a low setting (funnily enough, I just bought one from Lidl to blast the garden weeds into eternity so I may give it a go).

Another technique from way back was to build up layers using clear nail polish or just varnish (I suppose that you could also use a resin mixture?). Results can be good, but very fragile and brittle.

A low direct heat is what you want, I used a tea light for these as what I had to hand, it can leave smoke though but is a good way to control the heat in a specific area. Let me know how you get in making your armour, I’m just making leg and arm armour in Greenstuff atm. :)

Update

Been busy with Greenstuff/magic sculpt.

Still a WIP as doing in small sections hence the green colour variation, about 70% Greenstuff complete with armour and medieval clothing to finish, then some fixes and details to add. Have attached the saddles to the riders making it easier to place for lance Passover alignment, embedding onto horse and paint process.

Thank you buddy, really loved working on this, more sculpting than I’ve ever attempted before and learned a lot in making. Can’t wait to get some colour into the scene. :)

you're a fast worker, you are. Great execution of a neat idea.
I am a bit worried about the bloke who is about to stab his opponent -- looks like he does not realise he is about to be trampled by a couple of horses.
