I just had to have one when I saw that Stuart Hale was having a small production run on his 1/9th Border Reiver bust from the Battle of Solway Moss in 1542.

It came today and as I had just finish my Bengal chappie I just had to have a look in the box, like you do, and saw what a lovely moulded bust from Carl Reid it was, so I set about cleaning him up, and getting him ready for priming.

P1110814.JPG The bits from the box, I didn't realise he was carrying a crossbow, that is a super bonus.

The face really looks super, I shall have fun with that. All set for priming tomorrow, so watch this space.

Wow, Geoff you move quickly mate. Can't wait to see this classic bust brought to life.
I find I can get a lot of work done between 9pm and midnight, no phone calls, people at the door, etc, sometimes even with a Scotch in my hand, but I do have to remember to put it down the other end of the bench from the brush washing pot.;)

Thanks Nap, I will try mate but while I was waiting for the primer to dry on the Northern Gentleman I had a go at painting a face in acrylics instead of my usual Artist's oils.

P1110822-001.JPG Quite pleased with the result, what do you think mate, for a 1st attempt??

Hi Geoff

Goodness 2 at once now !!!!

The face looks good mate ..best through those oils away!!

Your going to need a bigger table at Poole show

Nap
Thanks, I do prefer the oils Nap, I had to work really fast to get that done, I think it was about 20 mins excluding the eyes which I did the evening before. With oils it takes me over an hour to do a face, excluding the eyes.

Managed to get him primed this morning,

P1110823.JPG

then this afternoon the eyes were painted and a base coat of basic flesh colour in acrylics

P1110827.JPG

As I didn't have enough time before dinner I just gave the helmet and body armour a coat of neat Artist's oils which was stippled on to give the metalwork a slightly worn and rough texture as the resin finish was too smooth.

P1110826.JPG

This will now be left to dry for at least 2 days but I can still paint this face as long as I remember not to touch the helmet.

So 21.20 hrs, prepare to paint face.
