Hello,

I'm trying to find a British Military Magazine that features an article about Ray Lamb's 90mm French Mounted Dragoon. Any help would be very much appreciated. Could be 1970's

Kindest regards,

Donald.

PS It is a Military Modelling Magazine, but I'm not sure what month or year.

Hi there

Sounds like it might be a MILITARY MODELLING magazine ...now sadly finished .....just need to work out which issue !!!

Might be this figure

Thank you so much for your kind help, especially to Andrew for the excellent link. Should you find the Military Modelling Magazine, that would be a bonus.

Regards,

Donald.

Hello Geoff,

Your my hero, thank you so much, very much appreciated. Just ordered it off Ebay.

Kindest regards,

Donald.

If it's any help, the original paintwork and article in MM was by Graham Bickerton for Ray Lamb, but I can't help with which issue it was in(all my MM's were weeded out yonks ago!)

I wonder what happened to Graham Bickerton? I loved his work; I would like to have seen more of his work. I have searched the Internet, but can't find anything about him. What nationality was he? I have a book where he is painting one of Ray Lamb's 75mm figurine. He is seen painting the figurine in acrylics, lovely figurine. I have a few of them myself.

He is ( or was) English, haven't heard anything about him for years, so don't know if he's still alive. A lot of his work was around in competitions in the '70's and '80's.

Good grief ! August'76.....I was 30, and awaiting the birth of our daughter. I had this figure on my bench/table at the time. I stupidly later sold the completed model ( needed the cash at the time), and regretted it ever since. I'll see if I can get one from Bonapartes, ...I see they still do Ray's back catalogue.

Hello Alan,

I already have the 90mm French Dragoon painted up and displayed in my cabinet. I like it so much as I do all Ray Lamb's figurine, I want to paint in a different method. I never had a good airbrush in the day, but I have since purchased a very expensive airbrush (Iwata Micron Plus). Cost me a fortune, not to mention the air compressor.

They stock all Ray Lamb figurines. I have four 75mm figurine by the same creator, when he worked for caldercraft, I think that is the correct pronunciation.

Regards,

Donald.

I remember that article well, as Graham was a frequent visiter to North cheshire Military Modelling Club. I know of no-one who managed to reproduce the exact colour of that horse, by following his instructions in the article, and when I said that to Graham, he replied with a wink of the eye. I'd be interested if anyone else has tried to reproduce that colour, and suceeded. Ray

At that time 1973 , it was still Hinchliffe
complete list here https://www.mirofsoft.com/ray-lamb/
Yeh under the name Caldercraft ( still another name for Hinchliffe ) Later reissued by Draper Models ( foot soldiers only, on horse stay at Skytrex/ Caldercraft ) under the name Elite 75
Later again by Soldier Pack who extented the range just by making some variation in headgear and some detail change, activity sold to Stepen Evans in 2003 .. now news since

Caldercraft was the name Hinchcliffe used for all it's products outside the Military Modelling field. They did a series of animals, Hedgehogs, Rabbits etc. and then branched out into Radio controlled Model Boats. Ray
