This posting is in reply to ChaosCossack; in regard to the basic materials that I use in the building of my miniature vignettes. The basics are listed in the following photos...hope this is what you wanted!
PHOTO # 1 & # 2...Most of my vignettes (95%) are built on (4"x4") wooden bases or (50mm) round bases...I use common ceiling tile for my ground base; it is easy to work with...you can stack it for elevation (as seen in # 2)...or cut gully/stream/etc. as you wish.
PHOTO # 3...My trees are cut from desert bushes...I select stems that look like miniature trees and have character...I trim them as I wish for the given project.
PHOTO # 4...All my dark earth is common potting soil...sifted for (3) sizes of fineness.
PHOTO # 5...My dirt for roads & basic ground cover is real desert dirt...sifted for (3) sizes of fineness.
PHOTO # 6...My rocks for roads & basic ground cover are real desert rocks...sifted for (3) sizes of fineness.
PHOTO # 7...My ground cover for wood chop/sawdust areas is real wood shavings/fibers/etc.
PHOTO # 8...My forest & jungle floor cover requires a visit to your general store...it is a mix of the standard (rosemary leaves/marjoram leaves/dill weed/basil leaves/parsley flakes).
PHOTO # 9...All my green leaves start as silk leaves from the craft store...I cut & size them for my needs for the project...they are stained in varied shades of artist inks for finished results.
PHOTO # 10...I cast my own rocks & walls out of dental plaster.
PHOTO # 11...I use a lot of mushrooms in my fantasy vignettes...I cast them in varied sizes & shapes.
PHOTO # 12...I use (3) basic commercial ground cover turf from the hobby shops (shamrock green/spring green and rustic summer mix)...I mix these in with my desired ground cover for the given vignette.
OTHER DATA...I use only Acrylic Artist Paints (have over 100 colors/shades)...I use Adirondack Alcohol Artist Ink for stains...I use standard white glue & super thin cyanoacrylate as my bonding agents...and I only use paint brushes in my work (do not have and have never owned an airbrush)...all flowers in my vignettes are from the craft stores (I pick up what pleases me/looks good and fantasy like and that I can see as a vignette prop in my " minds eye "...
