A real ambitious one Ritchie, great background story ,looking good so far and that horse pose looks spot on for the subject. look forward to the updates.

Great progress on an interesting diorama.
Inspires me to get stuck in and try some custom work as well.
Question: As I have next to no sculpting experience, do find it's easier to convert an existing figure or sculpt a figure right from scratch, supplimented with manufactured parts (head, hands, boots equipment etc). Both ways appear to have their own pros and cons.

Eagerly following the progress of this project

Colin, I have tried both and I can say that a conversion is much easier in my book. The greatest talent is getting the anatomical pose right and the real world weight on the drapery. The fine sculptors out there do most of the donkey work for you so not as challenging but still difficult lol!

Hi All,
Derek, Ken, Roger, Dave, Ron, Ron, Colin, Steve, Carl and Steve - thank you all for the positive comments.

Ron - Glad you like the background to the model, it is a great book Blood on the Painted Mountain. After seeing the entries at the Sword & Lance it has inspired me to try and up my game, especially in the painting department.
It was you, Roger and Dave who helped me out immensely with advice on painting the horse in my last project - hence starting this one.

Colin - I can honestly say for us mere mortals converting for me is the easiest option, although I still want to scratch build one day, but it's not easy. I take my hat off to all those talented sculptors out there, as I know how long it took me to do the details on the jacket to date.
It certainly has tested my dexterity and patience. I totally agree with Dave (Dr Force)
thanks again all
cheers
Richie:)

Hi All,
I have managed to push this on a little further this weekend. I have completed all the sculpting detail on the jacket and added pistol holster, belt and pouches. The standing figure of D'Arcy is just about finished other than a sword to attach after painting, spurs on the boots and a pistol lanyard.
I have started to sculpt with milliput the detail on the jacket for the mounted figure of Buller.
cheers
Richie

Hi Martin - thanks for the great comment, this project is certainly testing me.

Hi Steve - thanks for looking in, hopefully I can keep the standard up.

Hi Carl - thanks for the thumbs up mate, hope to get some more done this week if work allows.

Hi Roger - thanks for dropping in and the support, it's very much appreciated from everyone.

cheers

Richie, this is top stuff fella, it really is coming together now and the additional sculpt/ detail is of a high quality. Looking forward to a splash of paint!!!!

Hi Ritchie

Someone back in the seventies gave me a set of six volumes from the boer war, full of lithographs ,river crossings Majuba
hill and such, some great stuff for diorama ideas.

They were difficult to read as written just after the conflict and went on about the God fearing righteous British
and the heathen Boer,so in a spell of lunacy I binned them ,probably worth a small fortune now:mad:

Hi Dave - Thanks for the very positive comments mate the support is much appreciated.

Hi Ron - The Victorians certainly had the gift of recreating drama in their pictures, a pity you did not retain those volumes would have made great reference material.

Just a small update, I have been working on the mounted figure of Buller and trying to recreate a Norfolk jacket, loads of clean up to do, super glue all over and bits knocked out but, I will give it a spray to see what faults I have added.
cheers
Richie

Hello Steve mate,
I hope things are well with you. How's my canon and limber coming on:ROFLMAO:.
I have managed to get a bit more work done over the last two days. I have more or less finished the two figures, a small amount of clean up work still to do and kit to sort (when painted). I am starting to fit up the horse accoutrements, a few bits to scratch build, then groundwork.
cheers
Richie
