CANCELLED SHOWS due to COVID 19 virus

Yep, we held out as long as we could, but when our governor last week closed the schools in Montgomery County, which is not far from where we hold the show, the writing was on the wall. Since then, schools in other, adjacent counties were closed, businesses were asked to close their physical facilities voluntarily, and now, taking effect overnight tonight, they're ordered to do so. The hotel was impacted by those restrictions, and we couldn't hold the show if we tried.

It's sad, but it's OK, we'll see everyone next year.

So hopefully the club isn't out any funds on the cancellation then?

Hi, I hope that you are keeping well.
It is with regret that we have decided to cancel the BMSS Annual Show on 25th April, in line with the government’s requests to minimise social interaction and reduced journeys. Also, many of our attendees are in the age bracket for greatest threat to their health, the space is limited at Pimlico and it would be impossible to keep to the 2-metre spacing!
The good news is that there will be an even bigger Annual Show next year the same weekend (25th April 2021) which will be, as announced at the AGM, in Reading at the Reading Central Salvation Army hall in Anstey Road, Reading, RG17JR, opposite the Hexagon theatre and Oracle shopping Centre.

A sensible and the right decision Paul and I see its moving to Reading as well ....hope to be able to get there

Stay safe

Yes, Unfortunately BMSS Annual Show is cancelled. I believe that is the first time in over 75 Years!

I think it is very unlikely there will be any model shows anywhere in the UK this year, not sure if anyone will be comfortable with the close proximity it entails and the age of the participants.

Here's an odd thing. The dreadful situation we have found ourselves in has had a somewhat weird effect for me.
I was in the habit of attending and competing at 3 or 4 big shows every year, consequently I was painting figures to compete.
This had taken away a lot of the fun from the hobby and the painting process had become a bit of a chore.
The cancellation of shows has allowed me to 're-engage with the enjoyment that first brought me into the hobby by removing what had become a self induced pressure.
My production rate has increased, I'm thoroughly enjoying making a dent in my grey army and painting simply for the fun of it.
That being said I can't wait for the shows to start again....... Munich and Venice would be good ;)

Who changed the title on this thread? I'm fairly certain when I created it back in 2019, I didn't call it "Cancelled shows due to covid 19 virus".

Since it's a general thread for show status, has anyone heard whether the Long Island Historical Miniatures Society is holding their show (viz, the "Long Island Show") or not? I haven't been able to get a reply about it from the club.

Prost!
Brad
