This one, as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to paint it.
So here we go
Firstly, I wanted to put my stamp on it , so off with the mutton chops and a bigger moustache was added from green stuff. I set about adding other bits and pieces or taking some off.

A button was removed from the left cuff and a pom pom added to the hat in the cartridge box.

Base coat the shako in acrylic dark grey, to give the felt definition, I painted dots in a shade lighter and did this agin a shade lighter, by this time I was cross eyed. The felt was given a final wash of near black acrylic.

The egg cup was to balance the pack upright, all painted in acrylic's.

Thanks for sharing that shako-felt technique.

Super start on the face Bob.
It looks like a really sharp casting that you will enjoy working your brush skills on.
All the best,
Keith

Winfield, Thank you, Its a pain in the backside with all the tiny dots but worth it.

Keith, Its a lovely casting and I hope I do it justice.

Regards

Excellent start.

Marc

Made a stupid mistake and painted the whole of the epaulettes red,so these were given a coat Beige then Deck tan and lastly Ivory, for the highlight I used white. The tassels were painted in the same colours except I did not use the Beige. Brass was shaded with diluted burnt umber oil's and given a wash. The leather on the shako was painted in Lamp black oil's and the worn area was painted with yellow ochre.

More updates later. Thank you for looking.

Bob,

I was wondering what references you're using to guide your excellent painting. I'm beginning work on the same figure and am a little confused (admittedly my normal state of being) as to the exact color scheme for the Young Guard at Waterloo. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

best,

Greg

Hi Greg,
This may help you.
