Ground work looks great. I'm sure everything will come to life with the figures in place

Fantastic groundwork Ken. It will set off the figures beautifully.

Thanks Scott and Peter! Having this done gets me in the mood to finish the figures. Now, with spring here and home projects lined up, I just need to schedule myself some time. :)

Hi!
I like a lot the groundwork, may you give a little notions about its realization?

Thanks in advance and congrats.

Cheers,

Francisco

Thanks Francisco! The earlier part of this thread describes how I created the main part of the groundwork. Later I painted with acrylics and added various commercialy available artifical grasses.

Hi Ken great project, it just looks like a frame from a film and the viewer (me) automatically starts to imagine what's going on out of the scene, I thought that your picture of the slate sections, dead tree and log with unpainted figures and the picture showing the groundwork complete was a truly amazing transition so I am certainly getting a buzz watching your progress as like others my wee eyes have too many years on the clock to work on smaller scales.

Great groundwork. Looking forward to the figures

Thank you very much for the answer, Ken. The groundwork is superb.

Cheers,

Francisco

Thanks Martin, Francisco and Terry! Much appreciated.

I certainly understand about the smaller scales Terry. I'll continue on with them until I can't. I'll probably be having cataract surgery in the next few years so time will tell. :)

Another super project in the making Ken. Groundwork looks great and looking forward to seeing the figures develop. Love what you do with these figures.

Looking great, the base and the figures! (y)

I have an idea with their "Protective circle set", but this later :)

Hi Ken,
Just a heads up, you might be in trouble with my missus as well as yours. Look what's just turned up inspired by you.
Cheers Richie

I've just finished painting the first figure but now need to adjust my plan. My apologies to Richie and others, but I will not be able to show various layouts after painting the figures as promised. It turns out the amount of handling of the painted figures and possible adjustments to the groundwork to do so is a little scary so I will go with my last layout instead.

Also, the layout I chose fits in best with my back story. I will post the back story and the first figure shortly.

Thanks,
Ken

Thanks Neal! :)

Thanks Venko! Just saw your four horsemen thread. Gotta love these plastic figures. I also have the "Protective Circle" Set in my queue. Look forward to seeing what you come up with. :)

Hi Richie! I already explained how great the two kits were to my wife, after purchasing them. She's on board. I'm thrilled to see what you do with them. :)

Here is the first painted figure for the vignette and the fictional, but possible, back story.

This vignette covers a Northern Cheyenne raid on a mining camp in the Powder River, Wyoming area during "Red Cloud's War" in 1866-1868.

About two dozen Cheyenne warriors have gathered and are being led by the kneeling warrior in the vignette with the Henry lever action carbine. In the early morning hours they have approached, unnoticed, and taken positions in a line on a ridge overlooking the camp. The leader has selected several warriors with rifles and tasked them with taking out several guards with the first volley and then providing covering fire for the rest of the group as they charge down the ridge and into the camp. The warriors are just waiting for the signal to go. This vignette portrays only a few warriors in the center of the line with the leader.

The figure was painted entirely with acrylics.

Easter weekend activities *might delay me a bit in painting the other figures, but we'll see.

Thanks for looking,
Ken
