Cleaning paint off metal figures

Try Badger airbrush cleaner it is the same as the liquid reamer.

Interesting, but I'll stick with SuperClean. It works on acrylic or enamel, and on metal, resin or styrene, without damaging the piece, and I can use a batch of it over and over again.

A note on the use of Xylene.... HIGHLY TOXIC AND CARCINAGENIC!!!!! It's on the Dirty Dozen list, the top 12 harmful chemicals. It's used as a petroleum additive. I got hit with a dose of Xylene while working in a refinery... nearly killed me and 4 of my workmates. Very bad news stuff.

I use Fairy Power Spray (UK name), works great on resin aswell as metal and no smell.

Used to do Printed Concrete many years ago and thats what we used to seal them, complained about the problems with it (which I had heard about being Carcinagenic) and got the sack

I fully understand... the 5 of us involved in the "spill" were patted on the head and told all would be well. They took blood samples from each of us for "testing". Told us that all clothing that was contaminated was to be binned including boots... They gave us new coveralls, brought in the Boot Truck so we could get brand new kicks... we went through the front door of the truck, got new booties, stepped off the back of the truck and were handed our books and escorted to the front gate and told not to pick up calls at the Hall for this or any other Petro-Canada refineries.
Within a week of us getting laid off... 4 of the 5 of us were in hospital. Very scary stuff. We are still waiting on the results of the class action suit... launched in the year of your Lord 1997.

This started as an innocent thread but has thrown up some safety issues , I use liquid reamer for cleaning my air brush mainly when i use solvent paints such as Humbrol and decanted halfords primer, but looks like a rethink is in order now
Don't like using Acrylics as they clog things like hell , apart from tamiya but they are fine as their X20A cleans well .

Sorry Ron, didn't mean to darken the thread. As soon as I read that word I puckered up.
After the site accident I became a safety rep and acutely aware of chemicals we come in contact with. In this hobby, I doubt we'll have to don a HazMat suit but obviously some things we use require a little thought. Solvents, solvent glues, aerosol primers, resin dusts etc may require ventilation, dust masks, gloves etc.

We want to enjoy the hobby, not get sick from it.

Toxicity and causticity are reasons that I switched from oven cleaner (active ingredient: lye), to the de-greaser. Much gentler. I still use ventilation, but I don't use gloves, I rinse my hands as I work with the figures.

You don't need a polly bag as it comes with a fine tube so you can squirt right up your nose reckon you would be died in less than a minute
