Anybody point me to an accurate site for info re this uniform as Google throws up lots of conflicting info and it's about 300 years out of my period of knowledge  This is what I get for marrying a Southern Gal I guess :arghh:
Cheers Folks

That's what I Googled Carl trouble is there is *ahem* 50 shades of grey :sneaky: showing as well as different coloured trousers as below I just wondered if somebody could give me an idea which is the likeliest version I appreciate there was probably a lot of individual taste thrown in as well

"Fifty shades of grey" is right on the money. Uniformity of dress in the Confederacy was not a real priority, though the image of the ragged rebel is not exactly the rule. You cannot get the "wrong" gray due to the many sources of cloth, from home-made dyed to imports from Europe. Regulations called for specifics but again, there were other priorities. The long and short of it is to not obsess over the exact correct shade. If you look for the websites such as that of the Museum of the Confederacy, the photos will help big.

Much appreciated Steve any idea on the trousers or is it the same deal ? He's well uniformed and as you say not the stereotypical rags and tatters rebel
