I spent some time yesterday evening looking through Don Troiani's book to check one or two things. DT is about the best at depicting ACW uniforms accurately, both for colour and style, so I tend to refer to him if I'm doing an ACW subject. Several points came out of this, primarily I re-visited the collar and cuff colour as my first attempt is too light a blue. I also noted that the frock coat for Confederate officers often had the edge of the closure piped in the arm of service colour. I couldn't find anything mentioning a blue lining to the cape-coat either. All DT's depictions show it as grey lining.
So, today I repainted the collar and cuffs, and also got the waistbelt and holster, and the right arm braiding finished. Here's the result:

Not much left to do now, just the overcoat and hands. The sword blade is quite warped but it should respond to hot water. If not I'll fettle one up from brass strip.

Hi Phil

Can't beat a bit if DT for ACW references .....

Good repainting on the cuffs as well

Hope you don't have to fettle

Look forward to the next and possibly final update on this nice figure

Happy benchtime

Afternoon all:)
We are on the final bits of this project now. Today I painted the overcoat, using a slightly different grey tone to avoid it looking too uniform - no photo of that as yet, because I have given it a good coat of matt varnish and it's still drying. I also fitted the head and now it's starting to look like a little person - that's the bit I enjoy most, when the assemblage of parts comes together as a recognisable figure. I planted him temporarily on the base and this is how he looks:
Con half 1.jpgConhalf 1.jpg

He looks a bit lop-sided on the right but the overcoat fills up the right shoulder area. Just the hands and overcoat to fit, and one or two minor touch ups and he'll be done.
The next post will therefore be in Completed Figures in a day or so.
Next up possibly another bust, this time no medals but some complicated camo.

Thanks all for following this one, which I have really enjoyed:D

Really like how this is turning out Phil. The coat over the shoulder will be the icing on the cake.

The 54mm figure I ordered to try the scale sadly has not turned up so not sure what to try next.

Thanks Graham. I've put the pitchfork and flaming torch away! I may have to revisit FeR as this has been very enjoyable.
The Post Office is in a mess at the moment. My postie (when he turns up) says the the sorting offices are well behind due to having to operate a "social distancing" arrangement. I have some nameplates on order, posted out Monday and still no show. We had a Christmas card today, posted on 16th Dec from a mile away as the crow flies. Maybe they should have given it to the crow!!:D

:ROFLMAO: Yep, this folks at the post office are really up against it. We have seen no real problems in Peterborough over the previous lockdowns but we are being hit hard now. Even the bin men who have kept up a brilliant service since this all kicked off are now struggling due to so many being off. Those that are left are working all hours and days to try and catch up.
